Keeping your F10
So, my warranty is up on my 550i in November. I honestly can't decide on whether to re-up with an aftermarket care package or just get something else.
I absolutely love this car and all it does- the ride, the power, the comfort, the features, the looks, etc.. I just can't help but think the engine is a timebomb waiting to go off down the road. I've had the CCP done, VANOS parts replaced, the injector malfunctions fixed (so far), among other stuff. So there's a lot under the hood that's new. But, if I get some aftermarket warranty and they kinda jerk me around when/if the engine goes kaput, that's the thought I have floating around up there. I honestly would love to trade it in for an N63TU model, but who knows if those will have similar issues in a year or two. It took til late 2014 for our issues to develop and become a big deal. Just seeking advice from people who are getting close to their warranty expiration and thoughts on where to go.

With the G30 so close to launching, what's the point of getting the F10 N63TU?
Look at the new 7 series they just unveiled and you have an idea of the new 5 series. I think getting an extended warranty and waiting 2 years is probably a smarter idea. Getting the G30 on its 2nd year of production eliminates most of the 1st year bugs. By 2017, all the new luxury car will also have Apple Carplay and Android Auto. No more expensive map updates. |

It's not easy to find a car you love, so I'd keep it. As you said, the N63tu is no guarantee as evidenced by BMW modifying that engine once again for the next gen cars. I did read the other day about a TSB that says the battery in the N63 cars should now be replaced at each oil change so if there's any way to get that covered it would certainly help keep costs down.

I am taking delivery of my 3rd F10 since 2010 in 1.5 weeks. BMW are offering crazy incentives including early termination of leases low interest rates , my new lease will be 1.15% instead of the 3.9% I am paying on my 2012 535XI MSport, this cuts the amount of interest included in my lease agreement by almost 2/3rds.
My warranty was up on my 2012 about a month ago and allowable kilometers are almost at their limit, my lease was to end on Nov 30/15. I don't have to replace tires or front brakes so this coupled with the fact that I still love the F10 made sense to switch into another one now . For whatever it is worth , I went to test drive the A6 which only made me run back to BMW . I really like the 2015 535XI especially with some of the LCI changes that I did not have on my 2012 and I also found a a car equipped with the MPerformance Pack so greater horsepower and incredible Torque. Good luck with your decision , If I were you I would at least go spec a new one and see how the numbers shake out before you decide anything.

If you can find a good deal on a Route 66/ASC warranty (same company), I'd say stick with the car and get that.
Working for a dealer, I was able to get a "factory type coverage" plan through Route 66 on my 550i to carry me through 106K miles, but I was able to get it at cost which was a complete steal, given the amount of coverage it offers. I've heard some credit unions offer it as well, and you may be able to find some dealers in your area that offer it, but the key is to find a reasonable price on it. Beware of other warranty companies that will just be a complete waste of time.

I've heard good things about Route 66. My SA recommended using them as well.
I certainly want "factory/bumper to bumper" coverage, if I can get it for a reasonable price. This car has so many little things inside that can/will go wrong (like seat heaters/coolers, massaging, front/rear A/C control, etc..) I just don't want to get stuck with the bill for something like that. Last time I looked at BMW's coverage it was ridiculously expensive, but I at least know it will get done by the people I trust and currently use. Would something like a flash tune void a Route 66 warranty?

Based on the above statement and the fact that you posted your question on the forum, makes me conclude that you are not ready to get rid of your existing F10. Remember that any extended warenty that you buy now, is also transferable. My advice would be to go with your initial instinct, keep your current F10 and extend the warranty. The decision to trade in/sell and get a new one does not need to be made today. Maybe next month, maybe next year, maybe 3 years from now.

Thanks guys. I'm just gonna go ahead and keep it. I know I'll regret moving this thing as soon as it hits the trailer or I give the keys to the buyer or trade it in.
I've contacted Route 66 and they are routing me through a local CU for a quote, but if it's in the $2-3k range, that's perfectly fine for me as through BMW you'll be seeing possibly double that!

Yes, please let us know what kind of price you get with Route 66 thru your credit union. I've got 10 months of original warranty left, but if I decide to keep my car beyond that, will probably want to purchase something that actually provides some real coverage. Thus far I've only had the 105AH battery replacement/software update done. And the car feels more sluggish after that which makes no sense to me. Anyway, I need to book a few more miles on the clock (presently around 5500) before investigating the N63 CCP, though I'd like to get the latest injectors as most claim they see a mileage and performance improvement. Then there's the recently announced N63 HPFP replacement... sigh.

I say, keep the car and self fund any repairs needed. I've done that on 6 BMWs and have never regretted it.
There are pricey repairs possible but if you can't afford those, you can't afford the car, in my opinion. If you do nothing, you already have $2k to $3k to play with.

Don't be such a worrier. My warranty just expired and I decided against an extended one. I'll keep the car until about $100k miles and if any work needs some I'll use a small shop that specializes in BMW but cheaper than dealership service dept. the extended warranties were several thousand dollars so I felt fine going without one. ill take my chances.
