Navigation Update 2017-1 Now Available

The latest navigation version is now available on BMW Connected Drive web site.

Took a while to download as I have slow broadband but it's on a USB now and being loaded onto the car.

Worth doing as it's free for certain cars, Pro Nav etc.

This is the first time this has shown up for me.

All last year I was cursing on the assumption that my car was just too old to qualify for the USB update option. Now it's popped up.

Nice one, BMW.

Not if you only download the changes. They were certainly talking about it 2 years ago.

you need NBT-EVO or newer to receive OTA map updates. F10 2013+ have previous NBT. New G30 5 series will have OTA updates.

This is only supported in OTA downloads with NBT-EVO or newer hardware. The system compares the original to the new data and downloads the Delta (changes).

thought i would have a go at this but when I get to the screen that says select usb devise it won't go any further. Does it have to be a USB stick? as I am trying to do it with an external hard drive as thats the only thing I have thats big enough?

Not sure as I had a 32GB USB stick, not too expensive from Amazon

you can use a USB powered harddisk as long as it's powered by less than 500ma (max the console port supports). or use an external harddisk that comes with its own power supply.

be sure the drive is formatted FAT32 and place the exploded map file folders in the root of the harddisk.

How does the download work? Do you have to download it all in one hit or does it consist of multiple files so I could download, say, 2GB a day for a fortnight?

You can pause the download and do it in bits but you would need it all downloaded before it's uploaded to the car

Depends on your download speed, I have 3MB and it took 18 hours, then 2 hours to verify it and an hour to unzip

I won't do it again unless I am in a high broadband speed area

That's ridiculous, faster to download from the forum site posted earlier, sounds like it is faster than the BMW UK site and available 6 months earlier.

if you have a Windows PC....

right click on drive letter and select format.

in the next window choose FAT32.

Beware that all data on drive will be destroyed so don't do this on a drive with irreplaceable data.
