I just recently went from JB 335i to AW 535i M-Sport... 5 is a little less exciting but not much. But if it helps... I haven't regretted the change!
Enjoy! |

Went from 330 to 535. Back seat passengers are grateful. The thigh support in the 3-series is lacking, and the passengers hips sit lower in the 3-series making getting in/out difficult. The 5-series back seat looks and feels much better compared to the 3-series.
The specifications listed between the models don't capture these differences.

I went from a JB3 335 (loved it), to a Nissan GT-R (wanted to make love to it), to a 535. I'm more bored with the 535 than the 335. The GT-R, I still cry about. That being said, I DO like the 535 and it's very nice and luxurious with a hint of sport. It does feel more grown up than than the 3 series, but not near the fun. And it feels like a smart car compared to the 600 hp GT-R. I hate the fact that some of these pickup trucks are tough to beat now. I was used to smoking ANYTHING next to me in the Nissan. And I mean ANYTHING. Not that thats what it's all about (guess that's the grown up part). The GT-R was nowhere near as nice though.

I'm not complaining about anything. I REALLY like the 535, just for different reasons. It feels more like an executives car. A 3 series sometimes looks like, a look at me I own a BMW car. Trust me, a 550 would feel like a turd too. I test drove a Lexus IS-F and an E63 AMG and they were both dogs. That's when I realized that nothing "practical" was going to give me the thrill of a 2.8 0-60 GT-R. That's when I "settled". And I would have bought a 528, but I don't like the single side exhaust look.

I needed the room. I have a 2 year old daughter and we're working on #2. I just needed a bigger back seat. The GT-R onwnership was an expensive one at about $2000 per month (all costs added in), so I wanted that cost to come down as well. The wife wants a pool and I started feeling selfish and wanted to fulfill her wants too. Very humbling experience, but it was the right decision. Family comes first.

Don't Bfoolish (pun intended)! I had a e92 335i and recently went into a 535i. 5 is nice but definitely not as fun as the 3 (as expected). I miss the nimble and responsiveness of the 3 over the 5. Ultimately its what you do mostly, if you have a long commute and you plan to use your 5 as a daily its a great car, on the track 3 wins for sure. I'm starting to research into installing a JB3 to try to revive some of the old memories. As people have already suggested, go test drive and decide for yourself. BTW there's a $1500 incentive to anyone who purchases/lease a 5 series till the end of the month.

I couldn't agree more. The F10 does not have a lot more room than an 3er. Atleast it does't feel that way. Certainly more shoulder room (across) but not much more leg room

I went from an E90 330i to the F10 535i. It handles about the same. The F10 is heavier, but I don't feel the weight difference like other big cars. There's more features and legroom. I will not go back to a 3 series, unless it's an M. |

Do you have the 6-speed manual? I drove a loaner 2012 335i no room, seats are small, 8 speed auto yes handles better but the ride is rough. I'm never bored driving in Atlanta traffic

Oh my 535i didn't last long. 7 months. Was just too boring. Picked up a brand new IS-F a month ago. I know, I know. I looked at M3's as well, but at the end of the day the 2 are very comparable with the new suspension and LSD in the Lexus. I liked the reliability factor on the F as it's going to be my DD. I also was able to get a good deal on it and the M3's similarly equipped were higher. My wife got a brand new Escalade, so that takes care of the kiddos. I plan to get the F paid off very quick and throw another GT-R or Audi R8 in the garage.
