CANNOT Update Software "For Communication and Entertainment"

Any suggestions? I downloaded the software from the BMW website. I loaded it onto my otherwise empty BMW memory stick. When I connect it to the USB port in the armrest and select "Software Update" in iDrive, this is the message I get:

I think you have to use the USB port in the glove box.

You have to use the glovebox USB
You cannot load software from the center consol USB

I loaded the software update using the USB port in the Center Console without issue.

Interesting
Almost all BMW documents say you should always use the glovebox port
Maybe its because some versions/specs cannot use the center one

Everything I've read says NOT to use the glovebox port. Another question: Did you just drag the entire UPD01004.bin folder to the memory stick... or the files within the folder ?

Mine through centre console too (I don't think I even have one in the glove box)...

To answer the OP, yes just the .bin file and it should be in the root directory (not a sub folder).. and I used a 4GB pen drive, a 16GB was rejected/file not found.

No big changes for me, other than Bluetooth audio from Spotify much clearer
