Question Factory tinted windows ?

Does anyone know why BMW doesn't include factory tinted windows on any vehicles other than the X3 or X5 ? I was told by my Client Adviser that this has been the case for the past 5 years. I called BMW NA Customer Service and they confirmed that the X3 and X5 come with "Privacy Glass" standard, but not the 5 series. When I picked up my new 535i at the Welt last week, I was surprised that there wasn't any window tinting, and thought perhaps it was due to a glitch with ED, but the lack of window tint applies to all US-bound 5 series.

Hm. I understand that you are unhappy with the fact that the windows are not tinted. In Europe, all glass tinted and as an option, you can order individual tinted Windows, which is much darker. I have it on my 535d. Send a picture of the car, and congratulate with 535i

I don't normally tint the windows on my car, although my wife and daughter always do. Their cars (750i and 335i) have medium tint applied to all four side windows, which is technically illegal here in California (only a light tint can be applied to the front side windows, and anything can go on the rear side windows. But I hate this "unbalanced" look.). I wasn't intending to tint the windows on my new Le Mans Blue 535i, but when I found out that there's NO factory tint, now I think I have no choice but to add some aftermarket tinting. This is NOT an option available from BMW at the factory, although all USA BMW dealers are equipped to do this (or to arrange to have someone do it). I'm just trying to understand why BMW no longer makes this standard, except on the X3 and X5. I'm hoping someone has looked into this before and can explain the logic to me. Thanks.

Unfortunately we don't get options S0761 or S03AP for the 3, 5 & 7 series

S0761 does come in conjunction with the rear climate pack on X5 but it seems to be standard on X3?
Edit: Actually yes it does, it seems to be standard on the top end models

Hm hm I see but there is no logic that BMW U.S. does not deliver what customers want.

I paid $160 for my tint job, so why would you want to give more money to your dealership? My dealership does offer tinting, but not from the factory. They outsource it to a local tint shop.

If it's an option in the U.S., you can't have it as dark as you want it. My tint is 20% all around, there's no way a dealership would to approve that tint since it's not legal.

AFAIK on an European F10 the factory option 761 (BMW Individual tinted windows) is always optional on all models.

Yes, indeed.

And just to be clear, it's not a tinted film, but the glass itself is darker.

And I thought no US BMW got this, but interesting to know that the X3 and X5 do.

I wouldn't mind paying for this as a factory-installed option, but it's not even available in the US. I assumed that if it's installed at the factory, the tint film would be sandwiched into the glass, which I really like, as opposed to just being applied to the surface of the glass on the inside, which is prone to scratching. However, my CA told me that on the X3 and X5's with factory tint, it IS just a film applied to the surface of the glass... not sandwiched inside the glass. So I guess I'll be making a trip to the local Tint Devil once my car arrives in So Cal.
