MPG on the F10

I have a 2011 535i and I'm consistently seeing mpgs in the low 20s...as in 22 and even 21. Fueleconomy.gov claims you can get 24mpg on this. Is anyone able to average that much? I should mention that almost 80% of my driving is on the highway.

My Highway only MPG is 30 MPG going 75-80 MPH over long distances. I do tend to switch to EcoPro to leverage the coasting capabilities when you step off of the gas.

In the city with stop and go, I am around 13 MPG - Makes me wish I would have got the Diesel.

I owned a 2013 535i xDrive for about eight months before trading it on a 2014 550i xDrive. During my time with the car, I ALWAYS got at least 22 MPG in my daily driving (mostly rural back roads and minor highways, and 32 MPG on frequent long trips to Nashville). Interestingly, the 550 gets 20 MPG daily and 28 MPG on a recent N'Ville trip - not a huge difference. Have you taken your car on a long highway trip? If so, how did it do? As far as what you're getting now, that is certainly in the ballpark for combined city/highway.

I'm right at 21 mpg on my 2014 535i with a 60/40 city/highway mix - mostly in Comfort mode.

The government website says the car gets 20/29. Usually the site is pretty accurate. It is bang on for my colleagues 335 x drive

13 mpg? That is unusual. I drive my car hard, spinning tires almost every stop, I still net 18.3 mpg

Well, I guess I feel a little better that it's not just my car that drinks gas.

My current 535d (EU spec) I manage about 31 MPG. The previous F11 530d loaner I managed about 28/29; my previous F10 535 M/6 about 21/22.

I have got a heavy right foot; cruise speed in Holland on the motorway 90/100 mph.

I average around 17.9 city with my 2013 535 6-speed MT and 28mpg highway which leaves the overall around 21 (not much highway).

Yep its our car I guess.
The mileage is good Hwy only and bad local only.
The sticker really should say 15/30.

What's your average speed?
Your MPG seems close to the claimed figures, slowing down a bit might make the difference.

Have a look into other factors too -

... check the tyre pressures for optimum
... any excess weight? (including around your waist? ...No offence, could lose a few pounds myself)
... fuel grades?
... 20% non-highway driving - how non-highway is it?
.... M-Sport on 19s ? Bigger wheels can negatively impact....

Lots of factors, can make all the difference... look into it

NightVisitant, thanks, that made me chuckle.

Yeah, I weigh about 185 so I guess that may be a factor and yes I do have the heavy 19" M Sport wheels. I'm guess you get more mpg if you go with premium as required by the specs, right?

I get less than 11 in my 550 but I drive it very aggressively. 100% city driving.

Good point. How many of you guys that get crappy mileage and aren't driving the snot out of it aren't using premium fuel?

I think the mileage is good on the car. I average about 24 on my combined cycle and get 32 or so on the highway at 75-80 mph. I have the car coded to start in Eco pro so that helps a bit.

It also sounds like you have one of the newer F10s because mine (2011) doesn't even have eco pro as one of the options.
