What is BMW Diesel with BluePerformance?

I was just building a 520d on the UK configurator and noticed a new option near the bottom called BMW Diesel with BluePerformance (EU6). Its £995 and I haven't a clue what it does! Anybody know?

Its sometinh to do with emissions. something to do with a EU6 standard coming in in 2014.Sure others on here can eloborate. I think it lowers the NOX emissions .
I've just ordered a 530d and this popped up on the dealers screen , as you say for £995.

I didn't go for it but having second thoughts , just wondering if high NOX levels are going to hit diesel owners tax wise in the future just like CO2 is today. I think deisels are better than petrols as regards CO2 but worse as regards NOX.

It should ceftianly be a lot clearer and its certianly not cheap. HUD or EU6? know which I'd go for!

I think you're right, I've just found the linked document. NOX and PM emissions are being targeted to reduce significantly, which could mean hefty penalties for engines which do not meet these standards in 2014.

I wonder what they will target next in order to get tax prices increased again???

Lets invent some new acronym for a toxic gas and say that cars produce loads of it.... Then tax the hell out it!

Haha indeed! Saying that though, BMW say there will be no taxable penalty for cars produced before 2014 that do not apply.

Here is my thread with some clarification on the N57 board:

I think it might indicate, among other things perhaps, that it features DEF (or AdBlue) which is a system that reduces certain pollutants.IIRC DEF isn't usually found on European diesel passenger cars whereas it's been pretty common here for the last few years (my two diesels both have/had it).
