2013 M Sport suspension compared to standard

Question for the group. Now that the 2013 M Sport Package does not come with the Driving Dymamics Control feature, does anyone know if the M Sport suspeansion is any different than the standard car? As in having firmer spring rates or different damping settings?

Also, if you don't order the Driving Dymamics Control option, do you still get the Comfort, Sport, Sport+ feature?

Thanks!

Typically, a lower ride height firmer springs and bushes are part of the sport pack. The rebound rates are different too. If you can get active steering, normal sterring sucks big time on my M sport. Apart from that you may find camber rates are different and the shocks will be different. The ride is surprisingly good without adaptive drive a huge improvement over the E60 as you would expect with a longer wheel base with a wider track.

I nearly forgot, the 528 2.0 was just road tested against the E200, the JaguarXF 2.2, Audi A62.8fsi and a new Lexus350 sport. The magazine was Wheels here in Aus. And the report was scathing of the standard suspension and a similar story for the new F30, all without DD.
When travelling the country back roads 3 up, the suspension hit the bump stops where roads had a few small crests.
If you driiiiiiiiive, get the sport suspension on the 19s, I'm really happy with mine.

I tried F10 with standard suspension and 17", and that's way too soft for me.
I've also tried a F10 + F11 with m-sport suspension and 19" wheels and it's so much better, but still very comfortable.

M Sport and DDC

Not sure how the F10 is configured for your region but for NA, but from what I've read on various forums, M Sport and Sport Package options DID NOT alter spring rates OR ride height over the stock F10. The shocks, however, were does all the work when DDC option is included. I can definitely feel the difference as I change setting with DDC (ie from comfort to sport +).
My E60 with sport package DOES sit lower (compared to non sport package E60s) and my F10. My e60 sport package rides "sporty" full time since the shocks are not adjustable. My F10, when in comfort mode, rides like a big Buick...it just floats. (Which works for me on some of the bad roads I see)

Whichever F10 you chose, be sure to check out the DDC feature and DHP (for the active roll stabilization) if handling is important to you. For ride height, wait for BMW to offer lowering springs (unlikely) or go with aftermarket springs.
My F10 M sport looks like its about 2-3" higher when parked next to my older E60. And the tire gap is huge (!) even with the 19" wheels and low profile tires.
Good Luck

I test drove a 2012 535 Xdrive a while back and found it handled really well with the DCC in sport. It was a bit too soft in Comfort. I had also tested a 2011 without Dynamic Drive and found the ride had too much body roll. I also tested a 2011 535 Xdrive with M Sport. I found this car to be the best..

No one at the dealership I tested at really seems to know what is going on with the different suspensions.

My colleague recently had his 3 series in for service and has a 2012 528i Xdrive. All I can say is "pitiful". With this base mode's thin rimmed over boosted steering and floaty ride, the car felt like a Buick - something I never thought I'd say about a BMW. The 2011 535 X Drive with M Sport was a car I would have purchased had the price been right.

In Canada, we don't get Adaptive Drive for 2012/13 in the 535, need to have the 550. I also note that the Comfort Seats don't seem to be available in the M Sport (bummer).

Guys, Driving Dynamics Control is just a marketing ploy. All 5 series come with the same base suspension. Popping for DDC just gets you the console mounted toggle switch. Pull it out and you'll see it's not connected to anything.

The 2013 MSport package lists "Sport Suspension" on the window sticker.

For USA and 2013 it definitely shows "Sports Suspension" on the build when you select M-Sport....so it really looks like they are in alignment with the ROW now. Model Year 2011-2012 USA did not have this.

Since you are outside of USA I think you can go with what the European posters are saying.

I ordered M-sport and just DDC and it is still showing the "Sports Suspension" as well as "Adaptive Drive" on my build......... I think what they show on MyBMW is incorrect since on the BMWNA build page it disables the "Sports Suspension" on either of those when you select them I bet I'll end up with a base suspension and DDC, which if I had know better in July would not have ordered.

I had a 2011 535 with M Sport, without the DDC, and I can confirm that the ride was very harsh, and choppy at times.

My M5 rides much better - quite surprisingly.

Also, where the front of the M Sport would bottom out the M5 is fine - go figure.

I'm still guessing the standard suspension is what is used when you order M-Sport along with either DDC/ARS. "Harsh" compared to the M5 or not, I would have preferred a sports suspension with M-Sport if I had known it was going to be available. I only ordered DDC because I thought there was only a standard suspension available and was planning on adding the ACS springs to it later....

Are you suggesting that because there is no wire coming from the switch it's not functional?

You know, wires aren't required. There can be contacts instead of wires, and if you look at that switch, there's clearly a set of copper contacts on the bottom.

Wow. I thought America had figured out sarcasm.

I was just kidding around. I had dynamic suspension on an older AMG and couldn't tell much difference between the comfort and sport settings. I always hypothesized half jokingly that switching suspension modes didn't really change anything on the car due to the subtlety of the change. Currently, I have an F10 with sport pack, no DDC, so I can't speak to how well it works or doesn't.
