Question Help me negotiate the 5er

Guys, whats generally better to do - negotiate the price of car flat, or ask for extended warranty for 3 years instead included in price?

Assume discount and cost of warranty similar. What puts me into better negotiating position with the sales guy?

PS. I will be buying a 3 years old F11. I want the extended warranty, it is a premium selection car.

Thoughts?

Me, I would go for price discount and if I wasn't happy, then I would say "how about extended warranty instead"

This is a good approach.

This is a good approach.
I would research the "retail" value of the warranty. The dealer may or may not have a wholesale cost, so if they take a discount on the car, they would make less money than if they offered a full retail value of a warranty in its place. I would just validate the "retail" value first.

They were being funny in the end, offering me retail lower but saying no warranty. :S Im a bit puzzled by this so will see what happens! I know F11 is a fairly reliable car but things happen and if you pay quite a bit of money AND you take on a risk of smth going wrong its not as nice of a proposition when you buy an older car where it is fully depreciated. I guess it is all relative of course!
