Apologies if this has been asked before. Offer of a hand me down 520d from my father in law. 2012 Auto F10. He claims it can do 0-60 in 8 seconds. My question is.. With a remap what could that 0-60 look like?? Would the turbo be on its knees with a 45+ HP map?

It's done 115,000 miles and drives flawless. Nothing special in terms of the options list but could be a good toy seeing as he wants to pass it on for next to nothing. Has his heart set on the new Jaguar XF.

I drove his 520d M Sport and it felt like there was a bit of a flat spot between 40-50 and 60-70. After 90 it felt like it had ran out of steam. Not that I ever cruise at 90 or anything.

Guessing its probably not cheap. But I guess its all done properly and with full support from BMW which IMHO is a big plus.

Excellent. I thought the power kit was only for the 1 and 3 but great to see it applies to the 2.0 diesel turbo engine. Looks like 0.3-0.5 is possible and it sounds plausible with an extra 40Nm. I think it would help. It is an auto and in D mode it feels like it is being choked. It drives how it should in sport mode but there are those flat spot still. I read a review of the kit on here. Bloody expensive for what it is but sounds like it is worth it.

I have a feeling that the the auto required a new torque converter which bumped up the price quite considerably.

I've got an f11 520d and when in comfort and with the box in standard D mode you're right it feels sluggish. The main reason I think is because the turbo is for the main part off boost or at least coming on boost. In sports mode the turbo is continuously on boost hence no flat spots. Not sure how much a tuning box or remap will change this if at all.

The fly by wire accelerator also has huge lag in comfort and Eco Pro mode, it's certainly not as responsive as a traditional accelerator even in Sport mode, I'm sure BMW have adjusted it to be gentle on that engine but the amount of initial pickup can be embarrassing and even dangerous. When approaching a junction or roundabout, I nearly always push the lever left into m/s mode so that I know when I put my foot down the car will actually do what it's told and accelerate.

I installed the performance pack on my 2011 sport auto box with paddles, the gains are more on the linear delivery of power very useful when over taking, few tread on this in this forum UK section!
So the gains on 0 to 60 are not big deal I never bothered since I was after the linear power delivery.
Overall very with it, the cost was along 1400 euros so (1500 Sterling) but this was back in 2013.

You can also kind of "take up the slack" slightly when in Comfort by gently squeezing the accelerator a tiny amount as you approach the junction. This seems to prime the car so that when you press it properly it responds quickly. I tend to use your technique, though, as it doesn't feel right approaching a potential hazard and pressing the accelerator.
