Set of Megan M5 mufflers fitted for 535i F07/F10 $650 PRICE LOWERED
For sale is a set of M5 mufflers fitted for an F07/F10 535i. Included is a set of 1/4 wave side branch resonators, which did a very good job of quieting down the interior noise. Exhaust sounds beautiful, and though most enthusiasts love the note, my wife and kids do not. It is a family car, so they must go. Quad 4” rolled burnt tips. Fits perfect in any quad diffuser, but sales are final so do your research and ask questions prior to purchasing. Local pickup (Orange County/LA) only as the mufflers are large with the piping. Please see photos below: Price: $650 local pick-up PRICE ADJUSTMENT Last edited by sku01; 11-22-2016 at 12:25 PM.. Reason: Sold |

total noob question here, but what are the pipes at the top of the tips connected to? Or, what is the purpose of having those extra pipes?
Thanks, |

I'll take a stab at the question. The extra curved pipes are similar to what people call 'J' pipes. These are welded on before the muffler to cancel out the drone frequency, thus eliminating or at least minimizing drone. I'm not completely sure how exact the 'J' pipes have to be but there's a specific optimal size for each individual exhaust setup from what I've read.

Thanks Merciless58 ! They are quarter wave branch resonators. They are tuned to target unwanted noise at the low RPM range, aka drone. Sound travels up through the tubes and gets reflected back to cancel out sound. Since they are closed off, there is no impact on performance. Similar to how a Helmholtz resonator might work.

are these the Megan Racing mufflers on Ebay? I've been eyeballing them for my 550 but wasn't sure if I'd like them since there's not too much data on them.

To be honest it was. Only due to trial and error. That is not being factored into my price however. The M5 system is a 3.25" inlet that only protrudes maybe 4" outside the muffler. Originally, the piping needed to go from 2.5 to 3.25, and the hangers modified. After initial install, I was not happy with the low end drone. So I went back to have the quarter waves made. This helped tremendously. Low end drone was almost eliminated. These are about 40" in length to target the low cruising RPM's. At 65-70, there is almost no noise unless you get on the gas... when you would want the sound anyways.
