25k miles on my 2014 550i and SES Light - N63TU

Codes show p0171 (bad MAF)

Other symptoms.

oil at the top of engine (under engine cover)
Squeaking sound on cold start
Rough idle (when engine is warm or cold)

Apparently there is a recall on the Crank Case Vent Hose.

All of the above issues could be related to that (says my SA)

Will update this thread once i get the car back and more info.

Apparently this is a new recall, as I had the oil changed (mid service) in May.

Something to look into for you guys who haven't had this issue yet. For those of you who have had this issue please chime in.

Check the thread below for more info.

Wow, what a disappointment. I actually thought that the 2014 models were more reliable.

Most likely your idle will smooth out once you get a new MAF sensor.

However, all of your symptoms are absolutely unacceptable given your mileage. Are you sure that the oil on top of your engine was not spilled during a top -up?

not a big deal,as it was the only recall i've had.

seems like replacing the Crankcase vent hose fixed the other issues that it had caused. all is well now.

I just think it's unacceptable given your mileage. My 5 series has 75k on it and runs like a top. Never had to replace a single thing.

I think my car is undergoing the same thing. Light came up on at around 29k miles. Should be fixed and picked up later today. My SA said it was the hose as well.

fucking car got flat bedded again today to the dealer, was at a light, and the car was idling just fine, when all of a sudden it started idling rough

check engine light flashing
white smoke from exhaust (my mom was following behind me in my other car so she told me that)
drivetrain malfunction.

26k miles!!

hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come and maybe its just a coincidence that this happened so soon after the above issue a few weeks back.

we'll keep y'all posted

Text from SA

Shailen, we are getting a lot of misifire error codes. The tech suspects it could be the high pressure fuel pump or the injectors we are still in the diagnosis phase. I do know that I need to keep the car till tomorrow. Kin

I asked him why this would happen at such a low mileage

I wish I knew Shailen, I doubt anyone can predict when parts will fail. I know you have low miles on the car must be manufactured defects showing up.

latest update as of 3pm PST on Weds

Hey Shailen, we replaced 4 injectors and 4 spark plugs. Car is running normally now.

asked him to replace the other 4 in the other bank, as if these 4 failed (still don't know why) then whats to say the other 4 aren't too far behind.

they are 2 different banks. Unfortunatly I can not replace the others unless they are failing BMW will not cover them if we cant show failure to them.

his response back

Totally understood. we have rechecked after replacing the injectors and no error codes coming back. If I could I would like to keep the car until Friday to keep checking it an putting a few extended road test to make sure issue does not come back.

Has anyone with a n63tu had their injectors replaced at such low mileage? could this be caused by bad gas? or by using fuel injector cleaner (seafoam) in the gas tank???

Be thankful! Now you can get a driver's car instead of an appliance...
