Replacing N63 motor. Have a few questions.

Long story short, I was denied an engine replacement from BMW NA because my car has a Dinan tune.

So I am looking to replace my motor. I have some questions.

Is the 550xi motor the same as my 550i? I've heard that I would just need to replace the oil pan and that is the only difference.

What is the different between N63B44B and N63B44A?

I want to gather as much information as possible before purchasing the motor. Any advice/help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I thought Dinan kept the warranty...

Apparently not. I tried arguing that case but it got me no where.

Perhaps some of the info in the quote below will be useful in figuring out which models (and model years) had which engines. The difference between the 550i and 550ix is one is RWD and the other is AWD...they share the same engines if they fall within the same production date range. The only other difference that comes to mind is the power steering system. The 550ix models have a hydraulic power steering system (aka have a power steering reservoir & pump)...where as the 550i has an electronic steering system unless it has Dynamic Drive (option code S229A) and/or Adaptive Drive (option code S2VAA)...then it will also have a hydraulic power steering system.

And for even more clarification about the N63 iteration of engines...see the list below. There were five N63B44 engine iterations (and six if you count the 4.0 liter N63B40 engine used for the China market) that span from the N63/N63TU/N63TU2/N63TU3/etc that were used in E-G series BMW models. Hopefully the info below will help you understand what you have and where you fall withing the N63 debacle:

Thank you for the information. Seems like I can buy any N63 non-tu motor and it'll fit my car. I would just need to transfer over some parts that may be specific for each model (XI has a larger oil pan, etc.) If you find anymore information please let me know. It'll be some time before I buy a motor so I plan on doing as much research as I can.
