Replacing N63 motor. Have a few questions.
Long story short, I was denied an engine replacement from BMW NA because my car has a Dinan tune.
So I am looking to replace my motor. I have some questions. Is the 550xi motor the same as my 550i? I've heard that I would just need to replace the oil pan and that is the only difference. What is the different between N63B44B and N63B44A? I want to gather as much information as possible before purchasing the motor. Any advice/help is appreciated. Thanks! |

Perhaps some of the info in the quote below will be useful in figuring out which models (and model years) had which engines. The difference between the 550i and 550ix is one is RWD and the other is AWD...they share the same engines if they fall within the same production date range. The only other difference that comes to mind is the power steering system. The 550ix models have a hydraulic power steering system (aka have a power steering reservoir & pump)...where as the 550i has an electronic steering system unless it has Dynamic Drive (option code S229A) and/or Adaptive Drive (option code S2VAA)...then it will also have a hydraulic power steering system.
