hi All,

I have had the E39, E60 and now which may be my first DIESEL and first 4 cylinder car buy, with sudden change of import duties in my country, only remaining choices are cars up to 2000 cc. Its still 200% on base invoice value so its gonna be same price as a high spec 760Li anyway here is my final order sheet, let me know what u guys think

520d
Sophisto Grey
Sport Automatic Transmission
Cinnamon Brown Leather Trim
High Gloss Black Trim
Bi Xenon
Comfort Seats
iPod/USB with Bluetooth
Rear Entertainment System
HiFi 16 Speaker
Ambient Light Package
Sunroof

Will add later 20" 312 Ferric Grey after i get the car in September ..

Probably it will be a huge dissapointment!

I recently test drove the 525d while my own car is a E93 335i and it was just not fast! I can imagine that the 520d can be a very nice car coming from a 318i or 318d, or in your case an X5 3.0d, but coming from an X5 4.4i... I wouldn't go that way!!

The new 5-series is a beautiful car with the most amazing technology on board, but to go from a 4.4 V8 to a 4 cilinder diesel... Nah...

Good luck on your decision though, and if you do choose to order the 5, enjoy and post your experiences!!

well my major reason to change car a) the X5 is aging, it was a 2004, and b) i live in a city where avg speed is 15km/h but there are few times during weekends and at nights when the roads are free, but I get too tired now a days to go out and enjoy... also a new X5 would cost me nearly $560000 because of the tax increase on imports over 2 liter so hence the 520d is 2 liter and falls on the 210% import duty so its coming to roughly $160+- with all options etc.... will keep you guys posted ....

Gratz for your car.

Cinnamon brown looks great with Sophisto. I would combine it with anthracite headlining though, standard headlining is a poor match for sophisto + cinnamon imo.

changed my mind, now doing Sohpisto with Oyster/Black interior. The Cinnamon brown in sun light sort of looks pinkish and something just didn't feel expensive.

I saw a sophisto grey + cinnamon brown + anthracite headlining + anthracite wood trims 530d outside my local dealership a few weeks ago. I took some pictures which you might have seen on this forum.

I must say that the pictures did not do justice to the car. I took a few quick shots thru the windows with a poor camera and under difficult light conditions. As far as I remember, it certainly did not strike me as cheap or pinkish but rather my first impression was rich and exclusive, especially coupled with sophisto grey color and anthracite headlining.

Taste is of course a very personnal question (I chose Sophisto + black leather for my 520d) and I'm sure oyster/black will look great as well. But if you were attracted by cinnamon in the first place, maybe you should not give up on it so quickly and see the real thing for yourself.

thats the thing the dealer does not have any in stock, it will launch here in August with my car probably the first one to arrive other than the dealers own Alpine White....thinking about flying to Hong Kong or Singapore to see the car ...

I agree with you. I have had my doubts as well about cinnamon brown. I've decided to stick with it. Combining it with anthracite headliner and Havanna exterior. Hope it will look great when it gets here.

Hi, darrko from Pakistan. I have the same vehicle with almost the same specs as you are thinking about. My suggestions:

1. Get the surround camera option. Its very helpful in busy cities like Dhaka (assumption) and Karachi. Especially with the size of the F10....almost necessary! You will not regret it.

2. You may consider the Fineline Anthracite trim instead of the Gloss Black, the probability of scratching the trim is high for both but on the Gloss Black it is just too obvious.

3. I'm not sure if you really need the Active Steering or Dynamic Drive, it may be overkill for an average driving speed of 15 km/h but if you have the $$ then sure, go ahead.

4. Sports Transmission - yes but with Sports Steering Wheel. Feels great.

5. Bi-xenons - yes. Hifi Audio - yes. Comfort seats - yes. Ambient light package - yes. Sunroof - yes.

6. Rear entertainment, sure if you want it. For me it just meant increasing the invoice value and therefore the Custom duty.

7. Power trunk - up to you. I didn't feel the need to order it and do not regret it at all.

8. If its Soft Close vs Surround View camera - I would go for the latter. Much more useful than the former.

Good luck with the ordering, the wait is a killer!

For you guys that are always driven by a driver, why spring for 4) but not for 6)?

And Darkko, whats the latest with your car?

I drive my car.....but maybe the OP gets driven and hence his preference for 6).

Yeah the replacement transmission arrived over the weekend and they sent for the car yesterday. They invited me today for the unpacking of the new transmission and installation is underway. I should be hearing good news tomorrow, was gonna update you guys when I heard from them. [apologies to the OP for going OT!]

I think for most markets 6 costs over 10x more expensive than 4.

why didn't you look at the 525d which is still a 2000cc but much more powerful and IMO a much better drive?

If your roads are a bit bumpy then you should also think about the Variable Damper Control.

Sports Auto mated with 2.0d is a great choice. In sport mode, if the speed does go past the 15km/h you have quoted ... you will really love this.

Cheers ...
