[Resolved] Transmission replacement - need advice
My dealer has informed me that they are unable to locate an available replacement for the 8-sp Sports Auto Transmission (2TB) anywhere, and by anywhere they mean Germany and Middle East. They initially told me they would have the assembly delivered in 5 days after they found one but now they just keep telling me none are available. I just don't get it: how can an integral part of this car.....which is known to have frequent issues as per Google search for the term "F10 transmission issue"......not be available AT ALL?!!?
1. How difficult is it to find a replacement? 2. They say they may have to wait for the manufacturing of a new assembly and that may take from 1 to 1.5 months. I say BS....right? Or am I being unfair? 3. I want to talk to someone at BMW Germany about my case. I am not satisfied with the response I am getting from my dealer. Can someone guide me who I should get in touch with and how?

Sorry to hear your latest issue.
You should contact the regional BMW office and demand answer. I suspect the tranny is available, but due to parts logistics, the assembly plant will not take one out of the scheduled sequence, thereby creating operating issue within the plant. |

Here is the sitemap for the regional website for BMW Middle East:
http://www.bmw-me.com/me_rb/en/gener...p/sitemap.html I can't find a single link which says "Contact". I need to find a way to get in touch with someone who is responsible and can confirm this story either way.

There are usually a few spare units kept in the parts warehouse in Dingolfing Germany of these parts.
But as with anything, you may have just been unlucky and the spare units have just recently been shipped out. The warehouse then has to wait for their order to the manufacturer to arrive. This is just bad luck. There are not any "lying around" the factory because these are made just in time and in sequence for assembly of the cars. The head of your dealership should be able to contact your countries parts manager to get a estimate for delivery of the part. You should also be able to find a telephone number on your countries BMW website to contact customer support. In situations like this BMW ( not the dealership) usually provide a loan car while you wait Make sure you deal with the head of the dealership and not just the lower staff.

One dealer for the whole country pretty much means I take whatever sh*t they hand out to me. I have been talking to the Technical Manager so far, if it gets worse I am going to speak to their Chairman. So what E90Fleet is saying, it may be normal for this lead time to stretch to a month or more?
One more thing I'm not clear on: does BMW ship a new & unused replacement for parts by default or can they also ship re-manufactured parts at their own whim? Or can my dealer request for a re-manufactured part to save on cost? I ask because its very likely my dealer may do that. Is there a way to tell the difference between a re-manufactured part and a brand new one?

Really feel for you darrko. You wait all that time for a car and then you are let down at the first hurdle the dealer faces.
Best of luck. |

This sucks darrko. I would talk to the owner of the dealership and let him know that I want a new tranny and not a re-manufactured one, and have him put you in touch with BMW. All manufacturers carry spares of all parts, so its just a matter of getting one to you. Now, if the tranny is in high demand right now, they could be backed up, but I am not hearing of any wide spread issues, so they are just covering up for the lack of support that BMW is providing to where you live.
I am not sure how they work, but I am sure BMW and others prioritize where the spares are shipped to first. You will need to make some noise...lots of noise. |

Any reason why I don't see the transmission replacement on the RealOEM website?

My car is garaged at my office until the part comes in. Should I do something to prevent battery drain? I did tell my guys to make sure someone starts the car and leaves it idling for 15-20 min every day. Will that be enough?

I've recently left the car at the airport for about 6 days, didn't get a low battery sign so I'd think it's OK. I did get a flat spot on the tire that went away very soon, almost unnoticeable.

I guess I'm just scared of doing anything to the car now. I don't even know where the battery is, somewhere in the trunk?

Yeah I don't think we have that applicable here, I wish we did though.

But on a new model such as this there usually are not any around and you will get a new unit BMW have a specific facility in Germany that processes all re-manufactured engines and gearboxes making them as new.
