It means you have gained 0,5 km by driving in Eco Pro mode...

I got it to 10km once haha didn't really know what it gets you until I started reading around.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think this means that the car's electronics are functioning without using any gas!

Oh nice! So its still a theoretical figure.....the extra 0.5km has been added to the vehicle's range, right? I don't really know how this happened since I had the Auto On/Off disabled at the time and almost always is.

Wow 10km....seems like the folks at BMW know what they're doing. The Eco Pro mode must do wonders for drivers on long highway commutes, where I am guessing the adverse effects of Eco Pro wouldn't even show. Are the advantages similar for both petrol and diesel?

Thanks for the info.

Why you would ever drive the car in eco pro mode I don't know. I suppose you should be happy with that 500m though ....

That should make all the difference the next time you fill up.

I don't normally, hence my surprise at the indication on the instrument panel. It just so happened that I had been demonstrating the different driving modes to a buddy just a few minutes before I took the photo, so I guess the car must have still been in the Eco Pro mode.

Your sarcastic tone: not cool.

I've tried ecopro mode to see what its like (with autostart stop off) and even on relatively long drives, it doesn't seem to add that much range , managed to get it show 3 miles.
I think the main thing is that it dulls the throttle response and changes down as soon as the gearbox will allow.Feels very sluggish.
Tend to drive in comfort mode but last weekend as the car had covered 1400 miles and was out of its running in period, I used sport mode to see what the car was like. (530d) Very pleased with the repsonse, even without full thottle, it really accelerates out of roundabouts without much effort and you can feel being pushed back in your seat. Revs up to about 3500rpm.
I'll put some more miles on it before I use full throttle and expect to be even more pleased!

You are right, Sports mode really does add a lot of nimbleness to the car's overall response. I wish I had a highway commute so I could really enjoy it, as it is I hardly get any opportunity to actually gun it during my daily extra-urban commute due to the general lack of lane discipline, random jaywalkers and consistent traffic bottlenecks in my part of the woods.

Usually my car's on Comfort mode too, I find it to be a very acceptable compromise under the given driving conditions. Its not too shabby at all.

I too tried ECO PRO for one full tank to see what I would get and it indicated +7 mi gained when I was ready to fill up again. My commute is very much mixed, so I am sure more gain can be produced in different situations. But driving in ECO was horrible for my driving style.

Although the individual impact is minimal, imagine multiplying that 5-7 miles across millions of drivers weekly. That stuff starts to add up. I have to give credit to BMW for providing these options and engineering performance and economy into one.

I've tried EcoPro Mode and don't particularly like the way it dulls the throttle response but I can get it to display that its got me an extra mile on my 32 mile journey but what I don't understand is then how come my MPG for the trip using the journey computer is usually lower in EcoPro mode than in Comfort mode.

Now just use Comfort mode !!

I got 25+miles on a tank driving in eco-mode, mostly highway though with mostly bumper to bumper traffic. Figured if I can't gun it might as well save some gas.

whilst we are talking economy - I've found the best way to drive economically is to set a speed limit. When driving around town , I tend to find that keep the foot on the gas and gradually increase speed - if you set the speed limit to 30mph, then the economy figures are pretty good. Very odd to drive though - it feel like eh acceleraor pedal isn't working. handy for areas with speed camera but not pleasant to drive though!

Yes the so-called Black Panel. I totally love it.
