535 M Package - Seats?
So my buddy in Melbourne test drove the 5 series today, specifically one with the M performance package. His comment to me was that he was ruling out the M package because the seats were simply too narrow to be comfortable. He's not a very big guy either. What differing opinions are out there regarding the M seats? I had my heart set on a 535 with the M package for December delivery, and this is the first negative comment about the package I've heard.

You can have the M-Sport Package with optional comfort seats which are wider than the normal seats.

The M-sport package doesn't get different seats, it comes with sport seats or you can upgrade to comfort seats.
The only thing is that you can get the sport seats with cloth/alcantara in Europe. BUT in US you get the comfort seats, or multi-contour seats as they call it in US, as part of the M-sport package.

Not sure how big your buddy is but I'm the wrong side of 200 pounds and the sports seats are fine for me. Should try a Cayman for narrow seats, now those pinch!

Spoke to him again today. His take was that they weren't necessarily too narrow, just very high on the edges. Maybe it was his wife that was really against them, as they apparently weren't too easy to get in and out of. I'm a lot bigger than him (6'4, about 205) but never had any trouble at all with the seats in my 08 335i. All additional opinions welcome.

I've got comfort seats and they pinch and are uncomfortable at the base. And I am 72kg thin! My 997 sports seats are far more comfortable. I am disappointed by the upgrade and would chose standard seats if speccing again.

It definitely depends on the country.
I've posted a comparison before (from the Welt) - the only optional seats in the USA are the comfort seats with the "flaired out" edges in front. In other markets, the lower bolsters continue along the same line, which can constrain people's thighs. |

The thought just occured to me, Who are you buying the car for you or your buddy ?. If you like the sports seats then that's all that matters, go with what suits you and not your buddy.
