i was driving and the windshield cracked. its a bout a dollar bill and a half long. i have nationwide will they cover or do they have specific windshield insurance companies out there?

In the US (with most insurance), windshield is covered without a deductible. Make sure you ask for the OEM windshield and not some copy

It seems like most of the insurance companies push you towards Safelite or a similar company. In fact, it took three calls before I actually talked to a representative from my insurance company rather than being transferred to a Safelite employee. Bottom line, my insurance company reimbursed me for the whole bill from the BMW dealer although initially they agreed to only Safelite at about half the cost.

Quite frankly, after going to the the Safelite shop and interviewing the manager I can understand why they do it for less. Personally, I would not have a brand new F10 repaired by them even if they give you an OEM window. As an example Safelite takes about an hour for the install and sends you on your way with the advice to stay out of a car wash for 24 hours. BMW keeps the car in the garage an extra day so that the sealant can set at the proper temperature without been moved by wind forces as you are driving.

Great advice. Not only ask for OEM, have a BMW dealer do the repair to preserve all warranties, etc. If you insist on it, the insurance comapnies will let you do it. Just mention all the things that can go wrong.

Call them directly. Most insurance companies have no deductible windshield repair/replacement. They do not want people taking the risk and driving with cracked shields. Even chips that cost $25 to fix are repaired without deductible

A windshield repair is a comprehensive claim with deductible applying on my policy in Texas. I got it repaired for less than my deductible ($500) by a local company using Pikington (BMW) glass.

I may have to lower my deductible to zero get it fixed then raise it back up!

I agree having had a similar experience.
Would also add that if you have any options that use a windshield mounted sensor, there is coding that needs to be done at the dealer after replacement.
