Ordering touch-up paint

Hi all,

I have a 2011 535 that is in need of a little touch up paint. Can anyone recommend what might be the quickest/cheapest way to order touch up paint and any DIY to make sure the touch up looks as professional as possible? the touch ups are mostly due to rock chips...

thanks!

Interested in hearing the responses. I've never used touch-up paint since I've always considered the end result almost worse than a small chip. Big chips or other damage I've always have professionally repainted.

I've had excellent results with a combination of BMW touch-up paint and the Langka paint chip repair kit (which includes their proprietary 'blob eliminator'). The former provides the best colour match and the latter enables you to completely smooth the repair so that it practically disappears leaving you with no evidence of damage.

As an aside, I just today tried the Langka Wetsand 2000 kit to remove a fairly aggressive clear-coat scratch that some bone-head imparted with his car door. My car was less than one month old when it happened last fall. I can attest that it completely removed the scratch (which could be felt with a fingernail) and now my car looks new again.

I intend to take care of some minor rock chips on the hood when the weather turns a bit warmer, here in Canada.

Good luck!

Regrets - I don't have before/after photos. I suggest you go to the Langka website - their testimonials are believable based on my experience.

How about when you do the rock chips? I'm sometimes leary of testimonials on advertisements.

The Langka stuff works very well on rock chips. I got hooked on it about 5 years ago on my 2000 BMW 528i - it had over 150,000 miles on it and the paint still looked near new, in large part because I filled in the rock chips. The many coats of wax didn't hurt either. I've also used it with outstanding results on my wife's 2010 Z4. When it warms up here, I'll use it on my 2013 535xi, as I managed to pick up a couple of nasty rock chips on the hood over the winter.

Is the blob eliminator a polish? If it is I don't see anything special about it.

I don't think the blob eliminator is a polish - there is nothing abrasive about it. While I'm not a chemical engineer, I think it does something to reduce fresh touch-up paint, thereby bringing down the blob to be even with the surrounding paint. Because you remove the excess paint with the blob eliminator chemical which has been applied to a fine cloth over a smooth plastic card, the paint blob or bump is quickly smoothed out without affecting the surrounding paint in any way. It works in about 10-15 seconds. I can't imagine a polish reducing a cured or partially cured paint bump that quickly.

Cool, thanks for the info. I may give this a try.
