Record time for a delivery of a F10
The purpose of this post is not to upset anybody currently waiting for delivery of their new BMW, but rather illustrate how quickly it's possible to take delivery:

Very impressive especially considering Christmas and New year break is in that period, and the Distance involved. I placed my order on the 3rd January 2012 and dealer is expecting delivery 6th February. Considering the large number of options (see http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=637614) that will be quite impressive (If it happens on time)
So what controls the delays - Is the type of vehicle or is it the dealer having a slot allocated to them? |

Wow this just makes me hate my wait even more! Haha congrats on the early delivery!
Did you do anything special to get the order so quick? Like take over an existing dealer order? I ordered dec 4 and have just given up tracking or getting info on the car and will just wait for the phone call telling me my car is at the dealership!

More detail
Yes, big Kutta has it right. My dealership had the production slot slated since it is a high volume store and the slot was before the holiday break. I just caught the right timing. The cargo ship timing was even perfect. Here's a great link to track your car's journey:

Order placed and deposit paid Saturday 2nd April 2011.
520d M Sport collected 6th May 2011. 34 days! Possibly could have been a few days shorter if ordered on Monday instead of Saturday and could have collected a day or two earlier but was out of the country. I was impressed at the time but it's not quite as impressive as the opening post and Ireland is a lot closer to Germany! |

My time was similar/faster.
Order placed on July 10, 2010 (Saturday). Took slot of another 'generic' car about to go to production two days later. Car delivered August 11, 2010. Biggest hold-up for my car was sitting @ USA port for two days. My boat went from Germany > UK > Brunswick, GA (USA). No other stops. |

I should advise people to NOT try to beat my record.
Since my car was produced so quickly, I was unable to add 4-zone climate control. While Delvek is delusional and believes it's not an issue, lack of airflow to the rear of my car has made for uncomfortable passengers. |
