Engine Temperature Needle, Auto OFF, and Comfort mode

I just picked up a 2012 535i M Sport and there are a few things that concern me. The first thing I found weird is that my engine temperature needle never reaches the center, it is always like 3/8 of the way when I would figure it has warmed up enough. Is this normal?

Another thing that really annoys me that I read about on this forum is that you don't have the option to turn the Auto Off/On feature OFF by default? This is really annoying.

Another weird feature is you get an M-Sport and the car defaults to comfort mode by default???? What is BMW thinking??

The Dynamic Damper Control should default to normal unless you put it in Comfort Mode. If you put it in Comfort Mode, it will stay there, but if you put in Sport or Sport+, it will default to normal upon engine stop/startup.

As far as the engine oil temp, it usually stays under 250 -- about 3/8 like you said.

Garage List
"Comfort" is the new "Normal".

The possible settings in my 2011: Sport+, Sport, Normal, Comfort.
I think 2012 is: Sport+, Sport, Comfort, Comfort+, EcoPro.

So for the 2012, starting in "Comfort" is the "proper" behavior as BMW defines it.

I wasn't aware of the new settings in the '12. Who in the world would need a Comfort+ in a BMW like was mentioned earlier?

Comfort plus is the same as your comfort
Comfort is the same as your normal

The thing you have to understand about the "engine temperature" is that unlike most cars, it's not a water temperature gauge, it's an oil temperature gauge. And unlike most water temp gauges, which are designed not to show readings above one fixed point unless of severe overheating, the oil temp gauge shows REAL readings all through the range. It's much nicer than the idiot coolant temp gauge.

Why would you want to defeat the AutoStop?

Oops just realized that that temperature gauge was for the oil and not the "engine" temperature.

I really hope they push an update that will stop that Auto On/Off cause I find it really annoying. My car is not electric.

Highly unlikely as it is required to make their European emissions and consumption standards.
Expect it on most if not all European cars in the near future.
Just like the indicators in the side view mirrors

Yep, wife's Fiat 500 defaults to on as well.

It's no biggie, just made it part of the start-up routine.
