Is something wrong with my h&r springs?
Had h&r sport springs installed last week on my 528i. I've driven the car about 200miles since. h&r part #28947-1
20" wheels - front 245/35/20 and rear 275/30/20 The driver-side front is about 1/2" higher than the other corners, including the passenger-side front. This doesn't seem right to me. Any idea why? I expected the whole vehicle to be lower than it is Other f10's w/ h&r installed seem lower. Could my shop have installed the rear springs in the front? Did you measure before the install? If not you have nothing to reference, it may have been higher from the factory. I installed the H&R springs on my 550 and the left rear is 1/4" lower than the right rear. It seems there are a lot of people who have different heights form one side to another. Maybe the h&R springs are not exactly the same height, and the answer to your other question is no they didn't mix the fronts with the rears if they did it would be way off. The 535 has a lighter engine in the front so they don't go as low as the 550. If it really bothers you take it back and have them check it out.

that's a 3/8ths difference for the driver front than everything else? Teddy is right, you should have measured your car before the install. i hear what you mean about other people on H&R's...they look alot lower than what you have posted.

Agreed on not measuring, big mistake on my part - was planning to and it completely escaped me.
Here's a pic after install - not a very good one so I'll post a better one tomorrow. Doesn't look as low as other installs to me. |

It's possible the spring is not seated in the spring perch correctly, since you didn't do the install this will be hard to explain. I will post a pic of a spring in the perch and hopefully you will see how it could not be seated correct and cause a height difference.

If you look at the pic, you can see if the spring was rotated counter clockwise it would be higher up in the perch. This is obviously not our spring perch or the h&r spring but, it's a image for reference.

It's very possible that the coil was not seated properly. I wonder if there's a way he can confirm by look I under the car?

He might be able too, but the spring seats in the perch so the end of the coil is on the backside when it's installed. If the spring was rotated enough the end of the coil might be visible and that might show its not seated correct. He would have to jack up the drivers front take off the tire and get his head in the wheel well to try to see it or maybe he could feel if the spring wasn't seated with his fingers. Attached is a pic of the rear spring from my install, it shows the spring fully seated in the perch. Looking at my pic if the spring was rotated counter clock wise a few inches it would defiantly make the spring taller.

Also if the spring was rotated it would not be seated in the top or bottom perch, as the spring was rotated counter clock wise it would expand out word causing the spring height to grow. I hope this makes sense, I'm having a hard time trying to explain this. Let me know if this makes sense to anyone???

you know if the line up points are the same at the bottom cause if it is he would have to look at the top instead...the bottom?
