Used BMW 5 Series

Hello Friends -

I am planning to buy a used/certified 2017/18/19 BMW 5 series and was hoping to get some thoughts from the Gearheads/Overachievers here (Owning and maintaining a BMW in my eyes is really an achievement).

I live in North Carolina so hopefully I can skip the xDrive to get a car with less miles but confused regarding the 530i vs 530e. Preliminary research says that 530e is be a bit cheaper as folks would have received federal credit but also a little expensive to maintain as it has 2 motors instead of 1 router login 192.168.l.l.link/ .

Following is a list of questions, I hope I can get more information:

Should I avoid a specific Model year? For ex. 2017 as it was a refresh and might have new model issues?

General maintenance - How much should I plan - I am prepared for $1k/year (that too is crazy expensive for me coming from Toyota/Infiniti)?

Should I pursue cars from Carvana/Vroom or specifically look for Certified cars. Apart from extended warranty, what are the benefits of CPO?

I have a budget of $40K, should I break it for 540i?

Anything in general a BMW virgin should know.

2017 is a great year for the 5 Series! from what I've read! It really depends on you, on what to get, you should ask yourself what is the main reason you will be using it for? (Commuting to work and back, 2nd car or your weekend driver?) Do you plan on using it for the purpose of saving gas saving money? Or do you plan on using it as your performance car or plan to Mod it? 40k is an absolute great budget for a used 5 series of the latter to be honest. If I were you, if I was in your shoes, I would go with that robust 540i with the B58. Still great on gas however you are in Europe so really you got a big decision to make here.

Certified used is very nice and a Extended warranty is nice to have however, how long do you plan on using it or plan to keep it after its warranty?

2017 I recommend the year to choose a 5er!

Aren't they teetering on bankruptcy or something like that?

As to the car, the hybrid would be a good call if you are driving in city traffic daily. If it is more/mostly open road, I think lugging around the extra battery and motor doesn't do you that much good. I think B58 is pretty much perfected internal combustion, so don't complicate it unless you can take advantage of the hybrid!

There is also the most unicorn of unicorns, the ne plus ultra of unicorns, the ultimate unicorn: The 2018 540d X-Drive!

Yeah you'll pay interest like crazy, originally I was to buy a 2017 BMW 340i and I was to pay about 54k for a car that was listed for 28k during 2021. Which today is why I have my Beautiful 535i F10 <3
