Seatbelt Buckles Installed Incorrectly

Having had numerous loaners, why are some seatbelt buckles installed incorrectly, where the top of the buckle is facing the b-pillar and not the seat as it should so the belt can lay flat across the occupant. When facing the b-pillar it instead it lays twisted. Could be a problem in an accident, as the twisted belt could cut into and injure, instead of properly dispersing pressure.

I often find myself adjusting incorrectly installed buckles, which is not easy.

It happens. Usually the previous owner/user has twisted the buckle. Simple.

Hmm; not easy to do what I'm referring to, and not something someone would twist for preference. Also, this is on nearly new loaners, so it's a variance from the factory. What must be done to fix is bunch the belt in the center of the buckle - where there is an slightly enlarged cut out - and flip, but not easily done...

Interesting...

My sister runs a VW Caravelle (7-seater) and it is used by many different passengers. I assure you the seatbelt buckles were all correct from the factory, but not uncommon to have to 'turn a buckle'. It takes quite a bit of effort to do, so how do users get them to simply turn when using the belts? They obviously can turn with use, but what action does it, baffles me.

Are you saying buckles can turn / flip with everyday use? If so, how that happens is beyond me as well!

Attached is a picture of what I'm referring to. To turn / flip the buckle, so the belt isn't twisted, you have to bunch the belt up in the area circled and flip. Not easy! :|

Kids can happen along with fiddly adults. I have had it on a few cars. It is a real fight at times. But definitely can happen from day to day use.

Agreed, seen it many times.
Quite a struggle to get them back correct sometimes though, but possible

I don't know; seems they're installed wrong to begin with.

Children don't come in contact with driver's seat belts...

Happens with adult users, as posts already highlight.

Google "twisted seat belt buckles", it's a common problem, there is even a video on how to put them back the correct way around. One page even mentions the idea that users believe the manufacturers fit them the wrong way around!
