BMW Wheel Insurance

I just ordered a 2012 535i M Sport and I am debating whether to get the tire insurance for $2800. I am more concerned about the wheels breaking rather than the tires getting replaced on bubbles etc. Do you guys tend to replace cracked rims often with the m package?

Insurance

Wow - that seems like a lot. I picked up our 535xi M-Sport a month ago and paid $1,200 for wheel and tire insurance. Already have 2 bubbles. I don't know the specifics about the 535 rims, but on the 335 M-Sport that I have, I've replaced 3 rims due to cracks and big chips, so I think it's worth it.

When it is a M sport on 19 inch wheels, probably fitted with GY tires, 2800 seems quite reasonably. Beware, you need to take some time in your agenda for a couple of returns to the dealer for changing these LS2's.

If it's BMW's insurance, cost to the dealer is just under $1,000, many people are getting this with a $2-400 markup for the dealer. If it's third party insurance, check the fine print and see if they have the right to cancel after so many instances of use, could make it even more expensive.

$2,800 is obscenely high tbo.

2800 seems high. I had bought the BMW insurance for my 550 with 19" wheels and it was 1200. I got two flat tires and they replaced them at a cost of almost $600 each time. I don't have this car anymore.

If you drive in ny then you should definitely get it. I have gone through 6 tires and 5 rims in less than a year.. seriously

$2800 sounded way to high to me too. For $1200 I think it's a no brainer since I do live in NY. I know a lot of people that had the E60 with 19" wheels, and the non M wheels cracked constantly, but I don't remember anybody with an M wheel having a problem with their wheels cracking, that is why I ask.

Right now I have 17" with 45 sidewall on my 3 series. I have hit the WORST potholes. Seriously you would think the rim would fall off or bend/crack on some of these. Countless times, and I still never managed to break a rim. Now I know 19" is a lot more vulnerable.

its a combination of larger rims and the rfts that go with them that tend to bubble very quickly and dont cushion the wheels from damage when driving over potholes

The dealer tried selling me on that package for my 528i Sport for $1700. Forget that, I can pickup another complete set of rims and tires for that price. I'll buy an OEM set from someone switching their wheels and make a trip down to American Tire before I give the dealer that kind of money. $2800 sounds ridiculous.

I would do it... all 4 of my 356 style wheels are bent, and all 4 tires need to be replaced, under 10K miles
Fuck LA and its streets, the only good thing in CA is the weather.

I paid $1400 for one only because it was from BMW if it was third party no way I would've bought it. $2800 is a complete ripoff!!!

Paid $2600 (tax included) for 5 years. If you sell the car you can transfer it or get a pro-rated refund no matter if you have any claims or not. So its $520/year which to me is a good investment into peace of mind.
Previously had an X3 for a year and during that time had to replace 1 tire and put like 5 or 6 patches. If I would have had my current GT with 19" instead with RTF tires you can't patch it would of cost me a pretty penny w/o insurance.

I have the same warranty. It almost paid off considering I had to replace 4 tires at about 500 a pop for just the tire. Best deal out there.

In one year I've replaced 5 tires. 4 of them were the Goodyear LS2's. As you know these had a problem with availability. Just think $450 a pop just for a tire. They swapped out my LS2's for some Dunlop's but they are "summer tires". I think they are more durable than the LS2's. Bottom line "Buy the Insurance"

I just replaced my 2nd one today in 2 months. Getting the BMW insurance for sure. I am going to look into changing the tires to non rf. Already sick of visiting the dealer for tire change

We live in the same city, and I have about 10k miles on my car in 1.5 years with the F10 and I agree the streets in LA are an embarrassment, I haven't had a single problem. I thought about getting the 356 wheel. And this is testament as to why rolling on dub's in LA is a good idea in principle but not in practice.

Not even a week and I just got another bubble on the tire that I just replaced last week. The tire has roughly 80 miles on it. This is ridiculous. Gonna look at non rfts and replace them all.

I paid $325 for 5 years wheel and tire insurance. I bought it at the dealership from a guy I know and he cut me a deal (it's thru Zurich). I have had this insurance on many of my previous cars and had to use it and they pay up for tires or rims no problem.

$325 does not sound like a realistic price for this insurance, especially for 5 years! Cost of replacing one tire alone is close to $500. I would either get the insurance at a more reasonable cost than the $2800 mentioned or replace all the runflats with non runflats. The Goodyear LS2 RFT's are prone to bubbles at the slightest potholes.

Have an '11 550i m sport and got the package for $1,450 .Ironically I have driven the car for the past 6 months as an everyday car and so far no problems... $2,800 imo is way too high
