This is for you Cali folks. I don't live in Cali but while searching Dr. Google I found out that BMW has a "California emissions warranty parts list". The following components are covered for defects by the California Emission Control System Limited Warranty for a period of 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. I would think it would cover blown charge pipes, leaking valve cover gasket, busted intercooler and turbocharger, etc.
If you are still within that window of 8 years/100,000 mile and before paying or replacing these parts yourself, try calling BMW and tell them these items are covered under California emissions warranty parts. If they say no show them this, it's a pdf file and the California warranty stuff starts at page 31. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...oFrMbG9LFaZPxE Here's a list of what's covered under a 535i. |

Thanks Top_Raman, those of us in "Cali" are fully aware of the extended emissions warranty....because 1/2 do 3 year leases, 1/4 trade them in every 4 years, and the remaining 1/4 overspend on the maintenance after the 4 year warranty period, where the emissions warranty is never exercised...
Several BMW SA's say they rarely do warranty work under the extended emissions, and one 15 year SA never wrote a work order for emissions warranty work...not sure anyone knows why.... BTW, I needed "emissions" work on my 2005 E53 X5 at 142K miles and while it still passed the tailpipe sniffer, but failed the 5 minute idle test, then take it to 2000 RPM - look for tailpipe smoke....infamous failed valve seals....$5000 to install $50 worth of seals....Good for another 142K miles... |
