2012 535i... I have only checked freeway mileage as I really don't care about around town as I'm retired. On our 3100 mile trip last April I averaged 31. That was using Sport in town and Eco on the freeway. I wasn't trying for "high" mileage either; cruise set at 80+ (with a trip of two into triple digits) on the freeway.

these engines don't become any less efficient going 80MPH vs 60. when you go 80 you're closer to 25000rpm - lots of torque = barely any more throttle position. I find myself effortlessly going over the speed limit all the time even in my 528i.

very nicely done. you're doing something right then! I feel like my efficiency is good for what I have.

SoCal location I am sure has something to do with that.

And mine is a 2012 535i, mostly city, heavy foot, consistent 20.3 mpg per the onboard tally computer

I'm getting an average 24.5 avg per the computer and so about a 60/40 split between highway and city respectively. I thought I was doing great but the numbers from some of you guys leaves me thinking. But then again I drive with somewhat of a heavy foot however trying to control. But it never works out. Damn thing has a mind of its own.

right 2.5rpm is roughly 86mph to be exact.(at least for my car)

you dont use any more gas driving at 2.5rpm on the highway vs 2. if anything you'll be bogging the motor less. low end torque = efficiency

Garage List
10 litres / 100 kms average on a 535xi, no mods, and 90K kms on the odometer.
This works out to 23.5 mpg (US) or 28.2 mpg (UK and old-school Canadian)

About 50/50 highway / local driving.

2011 535xi. I just moved inner city. 95% city driving. Averaging 15-16 mpg even tho I don't really hit the gas heavy.

Back when I did 70% highway. I averaged about 21 mpg.

When I did a road trip 95% highway. It was probably 28-30 mpg.

Car is pretty good on highway, been horrible for city driving. Thinking of getting a diesel or ev next car.

thats horrific fuel econony.. I can only imagine how shit the performance is around town. were you the first owner of this vehicle? my non turbo inline 6 gets at the very worst 20mpg in the city and thats aggressive driving. average 25mpg still aggressive.

unfortunately your motor is in shit condition i would suggest looking for codes with a good scanner and see if you get some pointers on how to improve mpg. the 528i has more then enough torque below 3000RPM let alone a 35i.

nice! good fuel economy. perhaps I should have went with the 535i.. but finding RWD is such a pain here in canada. 25MPG is quite good for how aggressively i drive, love this n52. there is alot of torque below 4500rpm for such a heavy car and its very linear slightly more response then then n55 in the low end. it's the last of the naturally aspirated inline 6's and a good one..
besides the point of this thread however. these vehicles are very efficient

Second owner. Car does seem sluggish around town. Had some transmission malfunction error came up before a few times, went away after restart. I'm not much a car mechanic guy. Would you suggest taking into a independent shop for diagnostic?

strongly suggest you either look for codes with a comprehensive BMW scanner or get rid of it and buy one which has a more responsive engine. it will be worth the extra effort
