528i Luxury Loaner Wheel...

In a 528i Luxury loaner and love the wheel color / finish.

Can someone help me identify the color / finish?

Bright polished silver in look; photo attached.

Possible to replicate same on my wheels?

If so, any idea of cost and durability?

Thanks!

So the wheel is Style 454 and is “Bicolor Reflex Silver” that’s “gloss-lathed”.

Anyone know what “gloss-lathed” means and whether it can be replicated aftermarket?

Thanks.

I think its just a clear coat over the machined finish and then painted everywhere else but the face. Definitely possible to replicate, not sure if its durable.

Gloss-lathed means the machined finish is produced by spinning the wheel on a lathe with a CNC router to produce the tiny concentric grooves on the wheel's face. It only works with wheels that have relative flat surfaces. Few repair shops will have the equipment, which is pretty high tech per this video:

Repairing curb rash requires the same procedure. The wheels cannot simply be repainted, as I learned when I scraped a Style 397 wheel on my last BMW.

Wow; thanks so much, JesseSRQ!!!

What a great video; technical for sure.

Wonder if my Style 301 wheels are a candidate.

First need to find a competent shop.

Maybe the manufacturer knows who utilizes the machine in my area?

Interesting valve stem, it looks flush to the wheel. What's the story on that?

Yes, the picture - it appears to be a valve stem that sits flush with the wheel. Pretty cool, but never seen it before and how do you fill the tire with air?

Recently saw this neat wheel design on a new 535i waiting to be delivered at my dealer.

No window sticker to see the style number and didn’t ask.

Looked even better in person!

Enjoy.

I have that wheel on my car right now. Because of its unique design and lack of them on the market, I decided to keep them and not change my wheels. I spent a lot of time trying to find out what model they are or NAME to look them up but I can't find it anywhere. It supposedly came along with my car with the Modern Line Package. All it says on build sheet is "19" Light Alloy Wheel". Also, I find that pictures does not do it justice. They look WAY better in person that through photos, mainly because of its 3Dness.

I love them! It's the reason why I'm not considering getting new wheels. HOWEVER, I am planning to plastidip them gloss black to see how it looks on my car. If I end up loving the black wheels on Silver car then maybe powder coat them eventually. I just can't seem to imagine these wheels black on my car at all.
