What's next?

I thought I'd start a discussion to see what car everyone is thinking of getting next.

I have had an E60 and am now on a F10, speed doesn't bother me too much as Iong as it is has decent bmw pick up. (If you have driven a merc you know what I'm talking about). So I want something more luxurious, do I go for a 7? Then again residual and financing a 7 is awful. So what next?

My F10 spec is basic aside from sports steering, metallic and business media.
My next car will be either:
F15 X5 as it looks rather luxurious
G10 7 series if the residuals improve
Or a G30 with prof media if it isn't standard (VERY LIKELY CHOICE)

What cars are you thinking of next?

I went from an E90 to the F10 just before new year. The F10 would have been overlooked if I had the funds for the new shape 640d Msport (I don't know the number, F?), ideally that is where I'd like to be next but probably still won't be able to afford to buy one in approx 18-24 months time when I've racked the miles on this one. I'll either be in an F11 or F31 next, 6cyl diesel in both cases.

I was very nearly tempted by a 7 series this time around, there were discounts of around £25k on new factory ordered cars when I was looking (August 2013). With money off like that the residuals pan out very similar (if not better) to other BMW's.

With my family growing up a bit now, next time around for me will be when I get something less practical I think, AM V8 or a C4s if funds permit.

Garage List
I was talked out of an F11 535d back in August due to the large hook-shaped 530d sitting fully-loaded on the showroom floor .... got me far more car for the monthly outlay, but still regret not having that engine!

Also fancied a 550i .......

Colleague has just bought a 6 month old, fully loaded 5k miles 730d for £36k, I think that should sort out the depreciation curve somewhat. Lovely car, not as good looking as the F10, but great value compared to new.

There are oodles of Summer 2013 730d's out there (www.approved.bmw.co.uk) for the same price as a new 520d. I think I am correct in saying that 730's come with prof nav as standard and are almost identical in 0-62 times as the 530.
Get a service pack with it and you should be able to run it without excessive cost.

A bit of autotrader trawling or parkers.co.uk will give you a sense for the 3 year residual value.

Insurance when I was looking at this was about £50 a year more than a 530d.

But bmw finance is awful on used cars I've heard. I think it's to do with the lack of bmw contribution.

I thought of a 530d etc. but the bigger engine size doesn't tempt me as much as a better interior. The F10 interior is amazing especially when compared to the plasticky basic looking E60. All I hope is the G30 is a major improvement like the F10 was in respect to the interior.

Thing is my three children have either graduated (1) or at uni (2) and not living at home during term time so trying to persuade the wife on 7 or X5 is hard. She wants me to get a 5GT because she loves the interior.

Not as bad as you may think...his 730d was not disimilar in monthly cost to mine, although I agree, three months ago a new one was cheaper due to contribution from BM

PS there is a lot to be said for the 5GT, a bit odd looking, but the interior is undeniably lovely if well specced and pano sun roof. New model even helps the outside looks.

That is one hard question. I'd not planned to be back in a 5-series, after an E39 540i touring I downsized to the E91 3-series. Hadn't really intended to go back up in size.

I'd tried a couple of F10 models and an F11 was very tempting, although was getting ready to move to a new F31. But my current car winked at me.... an ex BMW HQ car, specced to £60k, only 6k miles, used by one of BMW UK's directors. The deal was too good to pass by, so I'm spoiled again, as I was in my highly specced 540i.

Where do I go from here? No where at the moment, but full retirement may get me back in a smaller BMW again, hopefully still an in-line six petrol.

As much of a sin this is to say, I thought of buying an S class outright as my last car when I turn 68-79.

* I finance both the cars and have done for years.
