Door handle trim

Does anyone know what needs to be done to get the door handle with the trim? Do you have to replace the handle or is there another way to achieve the same?

Do you mean the chrome strip? If so, that signifies that the car has ambient lighting on board.

We are talking about the same thing yes. They come in chrome to signify that the car has ambient lighting, that particular handle has had vinyl put over the chrome

Yep Piers is bang on - you get the chrome strip handles with the ambient lighting pack, you can achieve the effect you're after without the need to even remove the handle by getting some 3M vinyl, a scalpel and a very steady hand!

I'm with you Beancounter, definitely prefer the handles without the chrome!

Agreed - I have a lux with the chrome strips. Don't like them but I bought the car ex BMW 5 months old with 8k on the clock and approx 40% off list so I can live with it. I didn't realise that meant I had ambient lighting. What does that do for me?

It doesn't do a lot but it does look cool! The handles light up outside and inside the trim on the doors cards and in teh cubby holes glows. That's about it but it makes teh interior a whole lot classier I think.

I was'nt sure at first, but now when I see 5 series without them they don't look as classy personally speaking, lucky we are all different Ambient lighting is another example of understated finishing of the product

Agree Piers, would be a dull old world if we were all the same.

I have the chrome strips and the door handles light up when I unlock the car but I don't seem to have the additional interior lighting. Time to have a play.

You should have the light strips facing downwards in each door, above the opening handles, footwells etc. The top strips are clearly visible, the others are not so. iDrive menu has a brightness function in "lights"

Thanks Piers. I had sent that menu function but missed the significance.
