Wife drove the 550i she said it was smoking from the hood no fault??

So I checked it when she got home I noticed a small amount of coolant dripping out of the turbo coolant line. Do I need to replace the whole line or can I just replace a piece that's leaking????

It's a common issue with the N63 for these lines to leak, but you don't necessarily get smoke from leaking coolant, especially when it's this small. I would just double check that you don't have an oil leak as well.

Either way, yes you can only change the rubber part of the hose. When you buy it new from BMW, it comes already assembled with the metal pipe as well, but you can take it apart and just use the rubber part. Make sure to keep topping off the electric water pump reservoir until you replace the hose.

Thanks a lot ya I was thinking the same thing because I check my oil religiously every time I drive her. And it's been perfect until yesterday when she drove now it's about an 8th quart down. I hope it's not the turbo return at the bottom of the v leaking

Yea it might be a turbo oil line giving you problems.

Also, if you do replace the coolant lines, a lot of folk wrap it in heat insulation to protect it from the turbos.

Ya you know what I don't have a cosmetic cover on the engine when I bought the car it was missing. I thought it would not be a issue but yesterday when she drove it it was raining pretty hard. I think she may have saw some steam from the water as smoke when she was stoped. And when I looked at the hoses I was feeling water that was on the hose. Because I checked it today and no leak and my oil was right at max I even ran it a little hard with no issue and no leaks. 🤞🏼also my reservoir was between min and max.

But I'm gonna continue to watch it and when I have my downpipes put in I may just say screw it and do the lines. I just get scared if anything happens even the littlest thing I start jumping to conclusions and checking out everything possible. The horror stories I've heard and past 1000s spent on previous BMWs made me this way. Thanks for the help
