Service costs 5 verses 3

Does anyone know if for like for like engined cars servicing costs for the 5 is at a premium to the 3?

The reason I ask is my 520d is due it's second service at 29,000miles which is an oil change and a vehicle check. I've been quoted £595 by my local dealer which seems steep to me. I've had BMW cars for 20 years now albeit all 3series and it's by far the most expensive base service cost I've had. Just wondering if because it's a 5 they hike the price.

£595 does sound a bit steep! It's the reason why a lot of us took out the £499 service inclusive pack when we bought or cars(from new). Not the answer to your question, but useful information for others who may be looking at this thread.

Shop around. Prices between BMW dealers vary quite a lot. Vehicle check is typically ~£100 round here (still a con, as they simply check the lights, etc. work), oil service no more than £250.

That does sound high to me too! Trying different dealers is a good tactic as prices vary considerably. Ask them what's in scope for the service, it should only be oil change and micro filters for the aircon...

I have found the cost of a pad change between two local dealers varied by around £100.

that does sound too much to me. that is £195 more than I paid for the 5 year 'free' servicing when I bought my car.(2012)

As others have said, I'd get quotes from others or ask if they are happy to lower the price (no harm in asking).

Take a look here:
https://www.bmw-service.co.uk

Don't expect dealers in the SE to be competitive
