Engine Shuts At a Stand Still

No, my 2011 F10 does not have the auto start/stop feature. When I approach a red light and come to a complete stop, a few seconds later the engine shuts off and the sport auto transmission shifts into neutral by itself. Its happened to me twice over the last few days. Don't know where to look first.

Fuel pump? Any codes being thrown by ECU? When did you last change your plugs as well? Also could be a transmission sensor problem as it is shifting on its own. If you are not under warranty, I would check the plugs, check fuel pressure if you have the tool and then you would need OBDII diagnostics. You can pick one up on Amazon for under 100.00. Plug it in, have it running while car is running and see if you can catch the error coming out of system.

Kind of leaning towards and ECU issue, but these cars are known for fuel pump issues. Even had one go bad on my 2008 328xi.

Appreciate the reply, I think it might be a fuel pump considering that I am also suffering from the engine not turning over immediately after I start it from time to time.

How many miles do you have on it? Have you pulled the fuel filter and checked for clogged condition? I personally have not replaced a filter yet on mine as it is under warranty, but pretty sure these have them in line. Some nasty fuel or even rust could cause filter to clog up. Do some research and see about replacing filter first, then move onto fuel pump.

I also think these have multiple fuel pumps in them, I think I remember reading that the older models did. Again, I am just theorizing as I have not seen this condition previously. Thinking out loud with my 30 years of car experience to help you try to locate an answer.

As of yesterday, car is in service getting the high pressure fuel pump replaced, and if that doesn't fix it the low pressure one. Will post the results when available.

Great news, the HPFP fixed it. Everything starts and runs smoothly now. It even added a couple of more average MPGs when I drove it home on the highway. Weird, even the transmission shifts up and down more smoothly. Prior to changing the pump, they must of did some reprogramming that had something to do with the transmission as well because it shifts almost as smooth as the new 4 cylinder cars, which they loaned me. Best thing about all of this, didn't cost 1 penny, CPO warranty's are awesome!
