Smile Ess Stage 1 Flash Tune For N63tu Review

i cant be happier with the results of ess tuning stage 1 flash tune. the results are amazing. i have tried jb plus, racechip ultimate, ess etronic box and was not happy with any of them.

my car is 2013 650xi coupe.

my stock times by vbox and g-timer were 0 to 60 4.3 sec and 1/4 12.8 at 106 mph.

i sold my vbox to a member here last week because after calibration my g timer was as accurate as vbox on multiple runs so did not need it.

the posted times are on g timer coz i sold my vbox last week.

0 to 60 3.4 sec
1/4 mile 11.8 sec at 117mph
0 to 100 8.5 sec

and all this is on flash tuned car, otherwise everything stock. runs were done today in the afternoon, 80 degree heat and humid and i am 1500m meter above sea level.

another cool thing is that ess gives you OBD cable to change back to stock and tune and for future tune updates which can be done at home with laptop.
they update software twice a year. no no need to send in ecu no m-boot kinda thing needed.

flash tune is 1395+295 for obd cable.
first time you have to send dme in for flash after that everything can be done at home via laptop and obd cable. you can go back to stock when taking car in for service. it takes 10 mins to change from tune to stock to tune.

forgot to add, ess quotes around 70whp gains
crank numbers are 550hp and 750nm torque thats 553lb/ft.

also the throttle response is amazing, no jerking or sudden/ abrupt surge.
feels linear and power is all the way to the redline no fall off as noted with piggybacks.

That's lightning fast. How reliable is the tune? And does ESS warranty/guarantee anything?

Ess has been in the game long before other flash tuners.
I don't know about warranty since it's a flash tune.
Seems very reliable no cel or drivetrain malfunction what so ever
Under hard driving.
Tune is for pump gas 91 to 95 octane and it will automatically adjust
I was running 91 non ethanol gas with 3 gallons of e85 in the
Tank.
My car is cpo I bought their OBD cable so can flash back to stock
At home for warranty work and the go back to tune.

Correction ess has updated the tune specs on their website 570chp and 580tq.
Did another run yesterday.
0 to 60 3.5 sec, 1/4 mile in 11.8 sec at 118 mph uncorrected for DA. DA corrected 11.59 at 119.2 mph.

They said they could make it even faster but want engine safety and reliability so this is the best that they can do on stock turbos.

Well with OBD cable is can go back to stock in 10 mins.
If the dealer is really trying to screw you then they can.
Most of the dealers are chill about it.
My dealer removed the dme for me to be flashed and they were cool about it.
They want our business and want us to keep coming back and buy more cars in future.

Hi Thats good to hear , I have been looking at ESS and noticed that they released flash for n63tu. how does the flash compared to n63 tu E-tronic piggy bank?

have you tried the cable and bought it back to stock? any issue

The flash tune is much much better than the etronic. For some reason piggyback tunes don't seem to work for 6 series n63tu engines I was not getting any improvement with standard tmap sensor installation so I changed the install to maf sensors and then I got 0 to 60 in 3.8 sec and 1/4 mile in 12.3 sec stock 1/4 mile was 12.8. But the etronic gave a cel. So I returned it and got flash tuned. Flash tune is much more powerful and smooth as hell.

Ess flash tune is amazing and the best flash tune available period.
Also it is the cheapest flash tune out there.
It gives you the capability to return to stock at home in 10 mins without sending the ecu.
I have not tried to go back to stock.

You are welcome.
Not planning on dyno yet. 70-80 whp gains are quoted by ess at minimum.
I think power gains are about 100whp.
Consider stock 1/4 mile 12.8 at 106 and tuned 1/4 mile 11.8 at 118 mph. My last run was 11.8 at 118 mph.
