n63 valve seals and oil consumption
so I had my valve seals replaced and intake ports cleaned but the car is still burning around a liter every 3000KM. what else would be causing the oil consumption and whats the fix?

make sure its actually the valve seals that's the problem.... ie smoke from tailpipe when car is idle and you tap the gas. mine didn't have that symptom I didn't notice any difference, except no more vibrations cruising at low rpms. that has definitely improved. I assume that's because of the intake ports being cleaned not the valve seals themselves. I still get tons of soot on the exhaust pipe and burn about the same oil as before, maybe slightly less |

Could very easily be turbos seals. Check for axial/radial shaft play on the turbo shafts.

Yesterday the dealer diagnosed my problem (burning oil, 2 liters over 10,000 miles) as an issue with the valve seals leaking.
They estimated it would cost $6,600 to repair. Yes, $6,600. When I balked -- because it's a $75,000 car with 80,000 miles -- they offered to discount it by 25% or just under $5k. Painful. Probably not a coincidence that my sales guy just happened by in the middle of this to see if I wanted to look at the new 7s. Big sigh.

bmw now has a toolkit that allows them to do the job without engine removal which is supposed to reduce the price(or for many dealers just boost profit)
