Hello guys!

I'm going to have the tires of my m550d switched this week.
A friend of mine suggested me a tire shop where he goes with his Aston Rapide S, so it's got to be trustworthy. I'm going there because I'll get the tires 400€ Cheaper than at the dealer (Dunlop Sp Sport maxx gt runflat)

I'm having a problem though. They'll need to spin the wheels in order to change tires / align wheels, so the transmission can't be in park; however, as soon as you switch the engine off, the transmission switches to Park automatically.

I've read that in the 6 speed gearbox there's a mechanical switch beneath the cup holder to unlock the park mechanism, however with the 8 speed zf gearbox there's a pattern to enter with the gear lever.

The problem is, from what I've read, using that pattern will give you 15 minutes of "Neutral" with engine off only, as the gearbox will re engange Park after 15 minutes.

I need help, how can I keep my transmission in Neutral while having the engine off?
I know I can keep the ignition on too, but won't it time out and eventually shut off the ignition, making the transmission re engage Park?

You can leave the car in accessory which allows neutral. If it times out and selects park, just repeat the process. Don't need to leave the engine running.

What do you mean "in accessory"?
There's the risk of it timing out while someone's spinning the wheel thus causing damage.

Also, why do you advise against leaving the engine running?

If you get in the car and press the start button without pressing the brake pedal, all of the electronics power up and the car can be placed in N. If you leave the car running for the full service, I'm wondering where the carbon monoxide goes? Can't see a service tech liking that.

One more question, sorry
When left with the ignition on, but engine off, won't the ignition time out and shut itself off, returning the transmission to P?

Yes, but that's why he's saying when that happens just repeat the process. I've done it a bunch with F10's/F30's

Exactly...
Well guess I'll see tomorrow.
I'm possibly taking it to the "shoe store" tomorrow since today, (what a great timing, the car was getting new shoes this week already ) iDrive tossed a warning of a flat tire, all hail runflats!

I was wondering that as well. I can see having to rotate the tires by hand, but at speed? Unless they are doing and on the car tire balance. If that was the case, I guess the OP could leave the car running in neutral for a few minutes. Some shops have exhaust pipe extensions for use when tuning a car (although I'm not sure which modern cars need "tuning" anymore.

For me to change the rotors on 550 xi we had to use a snap on computer to disengage the rear brakes.
