If you mean the fob, I put it in the little slot between the cup holders. That's exactly what it's for.

You don't put the key anywhere except your pocket. The slot between the cup holders isn't functional. And it doesn't even exist on MT cars. CA or no CA, there's still no place to plug the key in to start the car.

In my pants pocket, no need for it to go anywhere else.

The only time I take it out of my pocket is when I can't remember if I touched the top of the door handle to lock and I've already walked away from the car.

I think there should be an option to auto lock after the car doesn't sense the key for a certain time... 2 min?

If you have the fob on a key ring with other keys, the other keys will scratch the clear coat on the wood trim. The key fob is best in your pocket.
