About to order my first BMW!

Hello all

As the title says, I'm about to order my First BMW and am very excited at the prospect of doing so. This will be my fist brand new car so am really looking forward to it!!

I went into the dealership the otherday intending on ordering a 330D Msport with Business media and was able to get it down to a stonking deal, around 20% off the list price. However just playing around on the BMW configurator it seems I can get a 520d msport with professional nav and comfort access for a tiny bit less than the list on the 330d. So my question is do you think I can achieve a similar discount on the 520D?

Thanks

Yes. Play off a number of dealers against each other.

Thanks Balster!
Will dealerships be willing to negotiate over the phone at all or will I be visiting all the BMW dealers in the region!

Does anybody know if certain options increase the GMV of the car, for instance will Pro nav increase the future value at all?

Finally, do you reckon you could get three teens across the back seats? The car will occasionally be used to transport the family and seems to have a larger back seat than the Accord we currently just about manage in

Go to a site like Broadspeed and see how their discounted prices for the two models compare. That's only a guide, but it should give some indication.

There are often bigger discounts available on versions towards the top of a model range compared to those at the lower end - a 330D is a rarer beast than a 520D, so might have better offers available.

The important thing is to ask a few dealers, and see what you can get.

Thanks dippo

Would that mean I could get a substantial discount on the 530d as it's not quite as common as the 520d?

I'm not too good on the negotiation front really! I was lucky that my local dealer believed the lease rates I quoted and got as close to it as they possibly could.

Minimum £8k off a 530d M Sport with Pro Sat Nav - they may even go to £10k off list.
PM me if you want to know who to contact.

3 teens in the back is no problem.

You're approaching end of month. Well worth you spending a few hours on the phone tomorrow calling half a dozen dealers. Someone will be close but not quite there on hitting targets. You just got to find the one and make it clear you'll do a deal that day at your target price.

Thanks for that!

I'm off to Germany tomorrow afternoon and have already paid for a build slot at a certain London dealerhip so would hopefully be planning to purchase the car from them. Would I be able to get as competitive deal at the end of this week when I get back, or am I waiting another month?

The current slot I've been given is for a march 3rd delivery at latest. It's for any diesel BMW apparently

Certain options really make the car, pro nav, 19"s, Msport, ambient lighting, Multi function display.

3 teens across the back should'nt be a problem, certainly a 3 series will NOT work, a friend had to sell his 330d due to this very problem

Definately going for the Pro nav as budget allows, m sport and ambient lighting will be present. Parking pack too hopefully. Not very keen on the 19's although the M sport plus package is a cracking price but it all mounts up very quickly

So I did as was suggested and spent a couple of hours on the phone to my local dealers.

One of the dealers refused to give me a quote as I wasn't considered a serious customer unless I paid them a visit 20 miles away and also said that a 20-25% discount was impossible.

The other dealership I got into contact with were very nice in comparison yet couldn't do the same deal as I was being offered on the 330d and wanted more information about the 330d deal before they would look at their quotes again.

Finally the dealership who I approached regarding the 330d initially said that it should be possible to get the 520d down to the same level of discount.

The deal was quite crazy so I'm wondering if I'm being a bit too ambitious?

It was £3000 deposit, and then £370 a month for 4 years with a restriction of 10k miles per annum. This is for a 330d Msport with Business navigation and heated seats as extras.

Sytner bmw are listing under Offers on their website 520 m sport touring. £3000 deposit. 47 months at £399

I think they also have saloon at £370.

I didn't have to examine the deals closely I am afraid.

I recall APR was 4.9%

Bus nav is standard. As are heated seats.

Thanks shake and bake, curiously sytner were the dealer that didn't want to give me a quote at all and told me it would pretty much be impossible to get a 520d for that kind of money.

Have you checked out used? You can probably cut a good deal on Nov or Dec cars with anything from 10 miles on the clock to a couple thousand.

You could be driving it by the weekend. :-)

The best deal I got used was £350 a month with a 3k deposit and 10k per annum on a base 520d on a 12 plate and 8k miles.

Didn't seem like a great deal when for £20 extra I could get a 330d with bus nav.

No, Sytner WILL respond to you - do it via email.
I nearly changed my order to them!

Another vote for Sytner
You can see the baseline deals on their site:

Remember, these are just the starting points of your negotiations

Wow okay, so I wasn't being too ambitious. Don't know why the salesman I dealt with was so reluctant to give any details and flat out refused the possibility of getting a 3 series or a 5 series for that sort of money!

Will give them another call tonight, hopefully won't have to deal with the same guy

I see you're in London, not sure where, but worth giving Sytner Harold Wood (east of London) a call and ask for a guy called Steve Impey - nice bloke, no bullshit and will work to get you into the car at a decent price.

These deals assume you want a base spec car though don't they? Add another £6-8k in (some would say required)options (to start pro nav/any other colour than white etc)and interest on the deal, brings the monthly figure up alot, which even with a discount is substantially more than that offer.

I know it is marketing, but even so, who buys a base spec F10? Poss a company car driver who can JUST stretch to it, and then that deal does'nt work anyway as they wont do the deposit.

Not seem many base spec cars for sale, I guess it gives you a base to start at.

I'm not after too many toys to be honest. The spec I've decided is sophisto grey, pro nav, ambient lighting and possibly the advanced parking package.
