I really like DSB but it's a shame it isn't available on the m-sport pack.

Beware - for whatever reason, even the slightest surface scratches will become the most apparent on dark blue BMW paints.

As you said color is a personal thing. Still, Sophisto Grey hides dirt and grime reasonably well, scratches too (well, unless you're in bright light which exposes everything, regardless of color ;-), and is quite the chameleon depending on lighting. If properly cleaned it's a pleasure to look at in the sun. Not so keen on the 2nd version though - no sparkies

I'm surprised anyone would be considering both of these colors because they are so different. The grey is elegant but understated, like a grey flannel suit. Deep sea blue is a loud, attention-getting color. I saw one parked at the curb at my local dealer in bright sunlight. It made all the other cars fade into the background.
This should be an easy choice. Do you want to stand out or fit in? |

I like the Sophisto Grau on my F10 but I really miss the Stahlgrau aka "Panzer Grey" I had on my E46 330ci.
Steel Grey was in the perfect spot between Dark Graphite and Space Grey.....DG is really really dark.

Have to disagree with this generalization - my E60 is dark blue (Monaco Blue) and surface scratches are no more noticeable than on any other colour.

i went with imperial as i felt it had the uniqueness of deep sea and at the same time gave me the class of sophisto! that and the fact that they stopped producing sophisto with the xirallic flakes!
i'm a sucker for blue so i vote deep sea! it is a bit too blue for me tho, i parked beside one under sunlight the other day and liked the fact that mine was more purplish

I am on my second F10, the first was DSB. DSB is fantastic in bright sunlight but a magnet for salt and pale road muck. I am OCD about cleaning so washed at least once a week. After 2 careful years and 20,000 miles I traded it in. It went on the lot the next day as I had always polished out any marks. My current F10 is Space Grey, it always looks clean even after a winters week on the salty road. Hosed off and wiped over it is fantastic (so it should with 6,000 miles in 5 months).
When looking for a replacement for DSB I looked at Sophisto Grey Xirallic (A90). The car on the lot was a 3 month old demo car, it put me off as it was covered in deep swirls and looked like it had been cleaned with a scouring pad. Dark colour BMWs look the business, my Jet Black E60 was fantastic when polished, a day later it would look unloved. My wife had a pearl white Fiat 500 It always looked clean her new black 500 if a pig to work on and needs a quick polish after each wash. The same principle applies to seat covers, black leather shows more marks than grey, but for best looks I have had oyster/black in both F10's and find it so easy to keep clean. A light wipe with a damp bath towel every few weeks and a feed every six months or so. |

I've had both, I think the deep blue is prettier, especially in the sun, the sophisto grey is very adult but it's more of a purpelly mauve. The blue with the white leather or brown leather looks fantastic, that's just my opinion. I've had the Sohpisto grey GT with black leather, sophisto looks weird with any interior but the black in my op.
