what would you do?
so today I turned in my 2011 e93 m3, with bmw paying my last 3 payments because I was getting into a 2013 aw 550xi with carbon parts, ex pack, m package, lux seats, piano blk dash, driver assist, sport shifters, blk grills.
anyway I turned in the m3 but the 550 was not ready it had just arrived so they gave me a loaner to drive home in 2 hours away and they will call me once the car is ready. the m3 passed turn in inspection except for the miles over $700 charge I put a $1000 down on my amex on the 550. should i sign and close the deal or should i bring back the loaner and ask if i can keep my deposit there until the 2014 550 is ready to order. will it be more expensive? will money factor be higher in june/july? when 2014 is ready to order? will cash incentives be in place at that time? I need to decide before they tint the car. what would you do? Thanks |

Well I'm thinking you must be getting a great deal on the 550 now. Since you are getting a 550, the 2014 will have the upgraded engine and steering refined.
I doubt the price will be much higher at all...maybe a 1G? just a guess I would wait for the 2014 which you will get in few months time.

Will the 550 in 2014 really be better than the 2013 550? I don't think so and really all the comments on steering refinement? Unless you're really tracking the car in normal daily day to day driving that most of BMW owners do..you probably will notice VERY little difference. As for the new engine? A 40hp increase I hear? Improved but by how much? Is it worth the extra overhead and cost? It all on how much a deal he is getting on the 2013 550i vs the deal he probably won't get on the 2014 model. Remember the spring and especially the summer can be one of the best time to get an outgoing model year as dealers try to make way for their new model year inventory which arrives in early Aug/late Sept. So they often deal less on the incoming year model in terms of rebates, discounts and even factory money. With a model year refresh in the 2014; I'd expect a lot less on a 2014 than you'll likely get on a 2013.
So you have to ask yourself what is important and how much your money will get you as far as a nicely optioned car the way you want it now vs 3-6 months from now. It MAY not be as much as you may think. Good luck!

Thanks MD
the thing is i have stupid high m3 payments and getting into this 13 now would delete the last three payments. msrp on the car is 83k sale price to me is 75800 minus 2250 plus 500 towards first payment at 00081 w/tax 840 mo test drove it its plenty fast, just a little concerned the my14 will look more current but is it worth possibly paying more and eating 3 large (over $1100 a mo M3 payment with an already turned in m3) |

I had a '13 535ix on order and I decided to pull the plug and wait for the '14 LCI. Since then, I've actually decided to go the 550ix route for '14. I've done a bit of checking and asking around. The base price difference between the '13 650 and '14 650 is $700.00. However the Exec pack came down $300.00. Most everything else stayed the same as far as packages. If you option both model years identically, at MSRP you could only see a 400.00 increase. That's $10.00/HP. The cheapest horse power increase you will ever buy. Add to that the option for LED head lights, better steering, and in my biased opinion, improved front styling, I am glad I am waiting. The X3 follows a similar pricing scheme from '13 to '14 and in a heavily packaged '14 X3 it's nearly a wash on price from '14 to '13.
HOWEVER, the above poster absolutely has a point. All this is considering MSRP. You will probably not get the same deal on the '14 as you are getting on the '13. Add to that the cost of transportation in the mean time (now that you do not have a vehicle) and it may end up costing you too much to wait. OR the global economy could tank between now and then, and BMW will have no choice but to offer great incentives to move new vehicles!! Personally, I've decided not to trade my current vehicle, and sell it myself to make up the difference on trade-in to retail value. Best of luck. I'd love to hear what you decide.

I just got a great deal on a 2013 550i. I'd say go for the deal, the refresh is just going to be a refresh. You won't get such an attractive deal on one, that's for sure.

I think you will save alot of money getting a 2013...adding on the m3 payments you wont have to pay...
BUT....if it doesnt matter to you much not to get the 440hp new engine and whatever other enhancements, then go for 2014. Just don't kick yourself after wishing you waited for the 2014... |

If you feel that the 400 hp is lacking you can always go back and do a dinan tune and come out ahead. Honestly if it wasn't for the m3 payments I would tell you to wait a few more months and get the 14. I'm the type that likes to have the newest/best

As for lights? LEDs are nice but not enough to make me jump. Steering will be better but then again you've got to ask how much and will it be enough you really notice to the point you can't live without it. And finally like others have posted while your MSRP and options prices may not go up that much or stay equivalent its probably a good bet that you're not going to find a BMW Sales manager who will give you the same deal on a 2014 as you can NOW get on a 2013. From what you say you're basically getting $7-8k off the car plus what another $3k in lease payment gone bye-bye or at least the difference between your current payment which adds up to almost $1k if my math is right. You do the math and determine what is important to you...lol Finally 400 hp vs 440hp? Go see Dinan and you'll be fine. I have stage 3 and am pushing 525 hp give or take and around 590 torque [if Dinan specs are to be believed] That's M5 territory and definitely faster than most others out there...so I really wouldn't sweat the 40hp difference. You'll likely not miss it and if you do...like a few have said..there ARE options out there!

It may be worth to get Dinan mods if you intend to buy the car after the lease and then sell it right after so you could potentially break even or make a little profit. Personally, for leased cars it's probably not the best way to spend money.
As for waiting for the 2014 an extra 40 hp isn't going to be something you will notice. If they were updating the iDrive again and are going to add more bells and whistles I'd say it's worth it to wait but based on what we know, no. Just get the 550 and enjoy it! |

I would wait for the 2014 model unless they offer you a great deal.
