Anyone Retrofitted the Power Socket in the Boot?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi folks - looking for some help from the forum. Now I think in NA you all have a rear power socket in your boot, but in OZ it is a separate option (which I forgot to order) & am now looking to try to buy the parts & retrofit it myself.

As ever, BMW OZ have been startlingly unhelpful & told me "you are not equipped with option SA575 ‘Additional 12V sockets’, so you won’t be able to find a power socket in the boot as it is part of that option".

I rang my dealer's Parts section & they were "like doh!" when I asked for the part number(s) & could only give me a part number(s) for the actual power socket itself (no mounting bracket or wiring).

I have attached a file showing an F10 equipped with option 575 & you can see where the power socket is located in the boot (ringed in red).

So I'm wondering if anyone here (maybe from Europe) has retrofitted this feature? Appreciate any assistance & thanks in advance.

I ordered mine with the extra 12V socket option, and looking at the socket in the boot it moves a bit like its just clipped into the plastic inner cover on the boot lip. So there may not be a bracket - I think the socket would be more rigid if it was screwed onto something. Also, it was an A$100 option (i.e. only about €30 in Germany), so there can't be much involved in fitting it. This means the wiring is likely to be in the standard harness, and the socket the dealer quoted you may be the only part you need to buy.

Hi bmwombat
The retrofit is easy requiring the socket that clips into the plastic trunk trim, a length of wire and a add a fuse to piggyback into the trunk mounted fuse box. I added the socket to my 2011 car took about 45 minutes. For my 2013 car I ordered the socket as an option cost £30 and included 2 more sockets, one in armrest and one in passenger footwell under glove box. I will loll out part numbers later today. Cost is about the £30 mark for the single socket and parts.

Things are different around the world. I am missing the trunk socket, but the armrest socket and under-the-glovebox-socket are included.

Here in OZ the sockets in the centre console (front & rear) are standard; the glovebox & boot sockets are an option.

From dealers you need mount 61346904008 and lighter socket 6134673035
Don't test fit the two together as they snap together and are hard to separate when you come to do the job!
You also need a piggy back add a socket ( see eBay)
Crimping tool 2 spade crimps and a ring crimp ( from discount auto shop at about £6)
20amp auto grade wire (a couple of meters)
Large flat drill bit to cut hole for socket

What is the purpose of the adjacent metal D ring and why is yours red? (Mine are black).

Some additional notes on fitting. The socket hinge should be at the bottom. There are 5 screws covered by clip on covers that have to be removed to get the plastic trim off. Do not slacken trunk latch. Trunk floor comes out after lifting flap and unscrewing 10mm nut at either side. The side trim has plastic clips that are easily removed once centre pin pulled out main body of clip then moves easily. You also need to remove side D ring by removing thorax screw. As a follow up to Boulder Bills post the two side D rings and the two at rear edge of trunk are for cargo net or tied downs. The rear ones are the body colour or at least the base coat colour of the car. Blue on my 2011 DSB and now grey on my 2013 Space Grey

Tie down should have been obvious; never would have guessed the color connection. Thanks.
