Seeking a ride in a 550i/M Sport Package/6 Speed Manua - Northeastern NJ/NYC

Guys,
I'm coming out of a lease on my m6 in just over two months and am strongly considering the above mentioned setup.
Unfortuantly there is nothing around even remolty close in spec for me to test drive at the dealers.

I can put a refundable deposit down at a dealer and wait two months for a the car to arrive, and test then, but I'd love to see one in person first to see if I should proceed.

Would anybody be willing to meet up for test ride? I'm in Englewood Cliffs.

Please send me a PM. Appreciate any help or suggestions.

Also, if anybody knows somebody on the board with this setup that I should PM directly, please let me know.

There's a 6 speed 550i in Newport RI. Only a few in CT. I must say its one of the best drives i've ever had and the rev matching on the new 6 speed made it one of the smoothest transmissions i have driven in a while. One down size, it feels like a large car. The nose is heavier and i find the 535i would be the better choice if only it had 350Hp... the 550i is the right power but i think the weight is a slight disadvantage in handling...

I like the 550i though, it felt like more of a Executive Luxury machine where the 535i felt like more of a sport sedan.

That's an interesting thought and one I've had as well.
I'd consider the 535i as well with the manual.
I asked about that and the dealer told me none around, with sport package either.
RI is too much of a haul for a test drive.

Would you mind elaborating on what an executive luxury sedan is? I'm just wondering if the 550 is leaps and bound better than the 535(which I ordered haha)

You know, I had the same thought last night. I never really go WOT in my car (haven't had it very long) but I was surprised last night when I did that it didn't really throw me back in my seat like I thought it would. Nice torque down low, but not a rocket. That being said, I think you're right. The extra 50 hp would do it nicely, and I think I'm gonna jump on a new JuiceBox when it comes out for the 535 F10.

I think that will make the best combination (for my needs, anyway).

BTW Joey... nice sig

Thanks thanks!

Yeah I do feel that little bit more power would be good on the car. Wouldn't the turbo give us a little boost tho?

Don't get me wrong, it's quick for it's size. But it just felt like the turbo was more sized for mid-range RPM's... like it kind of fell off at the top. Nothing a little extra boost wouldn't fix! I could be wrong... I'll play with it this weekend and report back.

Torque junkies, 550i FTW!

My 550i is the second car I've had that could lock up the seat belt inertia reels in straight-line acceleration. (First was my M3.)

No comparison, power and feel are two different animals completely.

Its been a while since I have been in a 535 but had a lender when I first got my 2nd 550i, even before my exhaust and springs mod, and the overall experience had no similarities.

So I stopped by the dealer to confirm what the salesgirl told me on the phone...refundlable deposit on an ordered car.
Not exactly....how about a $5000 non refundable deposit.
Not eager to take that chance, so I'll ask again; would anybody local with the above mentioned specs mind letting me check their car out?
Thanks

Seems bizarre in the tristate area that there isnt a single 550i with the spec you desire to test drive. Not doubting you but its bizzare. Rhode Island is a whole lot closer to you then I am or I would let you check it out, for a small fee of course, lol.

Time to change dealers... 5000 non refundable... thats insane. And... not good business practice.

I have no idea of the law in NJ, but in MA for example its fully refundable.

Yep my Dealer asks for $1000 deposit to order a car and it is fully refundable as well, I'd run from the Dealer and find a Dealer thats on the up and up!

The reality is, you should really figure out the 550i 535i debate before you order. Is a 335i something you would entertain.

It will be as quick as a 550i but weight about 900ls less. Less luxury more sport?

The reality is, the new 335i is about the size of the old e60. And that car was roomy...

2012 335i: 300 hp @ 5,800 rpm; 300 ft lb of torque @ 1,200 rpm
2012 550i: 400 hp @ 5,500 rpm; 450 ft lb of torque @ 1,750 rpm

2012 335i:3593 lbs
2012 550i:4343 lbs

I will take the 750 lbs and go with the 550i if all your considering is performance. Do yourself a favor drive a 335i sedan around town then drive a 550i around town, forget the numbers you tell me which one is a beast and which one is a fast mini cooper.

Im a former E46 m3 owner
If I went to a smaller car--ie uncomfortable for adult rear seats then it would be another 2 door
I think I'd prefer the hp and torque of the 8 anyway, it's the lower weight of the 6 that interests me
It's all relative though, it's a heavy car
In the meantime Im still looking for somebody local with the setup

The dealer in Southampton told me they have a 550 6MT. I drove the 535 6MT they had in stock.

Good luck!
