That guy is so true...My thoughts though : i think many people are not comfortable driving there BMW without warranty/extended warranty. But I never heard people suggesting to buy an extended warranty or a service contract for either Honda/Toyota in comparison.
When I was college in 2008 I wanted to buy a very limited budget car ..I had the option of 10 year old BMW 3 series around 120k miles and 12 year old Toyota Camry with 200k miles. And I choose Camry and I say that hard rock car never let me down. It ran and ran until I sold it again.
May be BMW needs to concentrate on there reliability issues and fix them before they all go the GM way.
You call a machine ultimate and engineering marvel when it safe to operate, reliable and consistent in performance and BMW is always choosing two options out of three.

No - I do not have issues, but just am pissed with the fact that this person has such hate for bimmers.

I've owned 2 e36 M3's, 1 project e46 3 series and now an F10. Loved every minute of owning them.

Hes right though. My e39 540i had all kinds of weird issues it shouldnt have like timing chain guides going out due to being made of plastic, valley pan issues, vanos causing my engine to sound like a diesel. None of these are cheap fixes unless you know how to work on these cars yourself which arent always the easiest to work on. And Ive heard of the e92 m3s being notorious for insanely expensive engine problems as well as about a $5k clutch replacement cost if you have a 2009 due to having to convert to a 2010 clutch and flywheel.

Yeah theres probably a lot of cars that are as bad or worse but you have to be really lucky or do all the work yourself to make these cars last to 300k without costing an arm and a leg.

I love BMWs, have owned a 2007 E90 335, 2011 E70 X5 and now a 2013 F10 550 (all bought CPO) all within the past 7 years.

My 335 had all the standard 335 issues, HPFP, water pump, oil filter housing gasket leaking etc by 66k miles.

The E70 X5 was the biggest POS i've ever owned. Had so many issues. I was fortunate in that they were all covered by the CPO. About 2 months ago started having a transmission issue (3 weeks out of CPO warranty)...BMW approved a goodwill repair of the mechanatronics. Without CPO I would have spent over $10k in repairs all before the car hit 80k miles. That's unacceptable (in my opinion) for a 6 year old car. After the goodwill repair, I literally drove the X5 to a different dealer and traded it in.

By comparison, my Acura CL and Subaru Legacy were absolute tanks, put about 150k miles on each and literally had no expenses outside of standard maintenance. I'm no car expert but one would expect that when you're paying nearly double or triple the money of an Acura or Subaru you should get a well built and reliable car.

Owning a BMW after the warranty is expired is not for the faint of heart...you better be willing to open your wallet or know how to work on cars.

Funny how we all have different experiences. I had a CL Type S and had 3 (THREE!) transmission replacements in a span of 60K miles. Hondas/Acuras with V6s were known to have huge transmission problems at that time. There were multiple lawsuits. They even have a whole subsection on the forums dedicated to transmission failures

First On Race Day....

I got news for that guy... I don't know a manufacturer today that doesn't use plastic cooling parts; for one thing.

According to him I must be the biggest fool of all time... I bought 2 5351's. BMW's straight 6 is their bread and butter and goes back many, many years!
