I don't think it is normal Hunter. I would never pay for the car before I physically saw it, drove it, and inspected every inch of it. Tell him he can wait for the money if you have to wait for the car.

Is this normal?
Pay nothing until you inspect. If you find the car in an unacceptable condition you still have the option of making them order you a new one, or you could just walk. These options become far more difficult after you have signed on the dotted line.

For those doing ED, I believe it is mandatory to pay for the car approximately 2 weeks before you pick it up in Munich.

That's a bummer. My wife and I are planning on doing ED when we replace her X3 but I have serious reservations about signing before I've inspected the car.

I hear what you are saying, but there were people who ordered the e90's sight unseen before the launch.

Is there such a thing as bugging your dealer too much? My car was unloaded Saturday at 7am in the NY/NJ port. On Monday the automated phone system said, "Your vehicle is at the port awaiting a shipping vessel." Just today OC reported it was at the VPC (and we all know how far behind that can get).

Does the phone response mean it's waiting for a truck to be loaded onto? If so, I would assume that it has happened already - it's had that status since Monday. Would my dealer have any additional info as far as what truck it's supposed to be loaded onto and when that truck should arrive?

The OC website is SO out of date. My car arrives in NY/NJ tomorrow, while the OC tells me it "In production".

The 800 number is kind of vague in its wording, so it's not much better. That leaves the dealer as the only reliable source.

Given that it was unloaded last Saturday, I'd be expecting to see it very soon, so I'd definitely bug the dealis er.

BTW, how did you find out that it was unloaded Saturday? Is that from the W&W website?

Yes, W&W - Searching on my VIN brought up the status and it was "Discharged" on Saturday.

This should work -

http://schedule.2wglobal.com/AppTrac...trackType=Auto

Then enter your VIN where it says "Cargo ID". The whole VIN, not just the last 7 digits. If you get an error, try going to the home page, click on the tracking link, bottom left, then auto tracking. If it can't find the VIN, then

At what point should we expect our vehicles to be "booked" and the VIN number recognized in the Cargo Tracking - Auto input area? For instance, my car is in the paint shop today and is scheduled to be out of production tomorrow, but when I put the VIN in I still get the "no record" cue. I think it was over at bimmerfest where someone posted that the cars are "booked" on the ships about the time they go IN to production. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Yes, production completed 06/06/2005, so it was not booked for another week or so.

Please note that the bill under which my car was booked was for a total of 801 vehicles, not just mine. Here is the Bill Number for you to try out - "DE325240"

Thanks. I had this fantasy of seeing the car make the July 5th slow boat to Charleston. Oh well . . .

Kimo, assuming that your car is to transported by W&W, I'd recommend a daily (hourly? )check by entering your VIN. They keep their system up to date (unlike the website of a certain automobile manufacturer )

That way you'll see it "booked" and get advance warning of departure.

Tell them to leave the GPS switched on so you can track it across the pond!

If the system is not working , the dealer needs to enter the order number into the quoting program called Focus , tick OTP signed and link the client's OTP (Offer to Purchase ) with the order number under Oasis order management (in the Focus program )

My order was not linked, until I told my dealer that I want to track the progress online... luckily they knew what to do, and I didn't have to explain anything to them.... they went to their PC and did the linking.

I'm now able to see the status of my order .... I was surprised to see all options I ordered(exterior colour, interior, package details, etc)... I had expected to see just a subset of the options.... I say well done to BMW SA, the site is working really well, and very useful indeed..... my current status is "On order".

Kimo, mine also is in the paint shop with completion 7/1. Supposed to be a 7/5 and 7/7 departure to Chas, SC with arrival for both on 7/21. Another boat on 7/11 arriving 7/27. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

The nice 1-800 lady tells me today that my wife's "vehicle is being transported to the port of exit." I assume yours is too? If you live in OH, would your car be coming into port in Charleston, or in NYC? We're doing a Performance Center Delivery in Spartanburg, so Charleston is right for us. Maybe we CAN make one of the July 5/6/7th boats. W&W is still not recognizing her VIN as being booked yet though.
