Are BMW Canada product managers out of their minds???

I just tried to configure a 535i with manual transmission, which is an available option, but when I selected the M Sport package, lo and behold, I was forced to take a slushbox...!!!

What is wrong with these people, they take away the manual option in their sport model? Has anyone successfully overridden this while ordering?

Sure it wasn't due to xDrive? No manual with xDrive.

You don't even have to specify the M-sport package. Just the regular sport package on a 535i will also eliminate the manual option. It is strange that if you want any type of sport package, you have to take an automatic.

Slush box, nice, lol.

The new 8 speed transmission is made by ZF which is arguably one of the best transmission manufacturers in the world. They have been around since 1919 and their transmissions are very sought after in classic cars. I am not even sure who makes the manual so my apologies. A version of this 8-Speed ZF tranny is also used in Rolls Royce and mated to 500 horsepower engines. The fact that you lose 2 gears, the ease of Automatic driving, fuel economy of 2-3 MPG and no improvement in 0-60 times, its up to you which is the slush box. All this and havent even touch on the sport option which introduces a different component to this already stout transmission. It also doesnt even touch on resale value and marketability.

Then again if you like to feel "in control" then piss on the paddles and get the gear shifter!

Good to hear Canadian dealers doing an even better job of pushing people away from 6spds.. ridiculous. BTW I love the new F10.

I understand the ZF's advantages, however I wanted a 3-pedal car. My 3er is Step - while it is a huge advantage in traffic, I really miss rowing my own boat.

I cannot believe BMW is doing this. I think they kept the manual tranny to keep the base price down, not for 6-speed purists.

You used to be able to configure it that way, sport with a 6-speed, but it changed in the fall. I had a 535i with sport package and 6-speed on order, but ended up going with an xi, so I had to give up the 6-speed. If I didn't have other cars to play with in the summer I'd have gone for the 6-speed over the all wheel drive. I don't think I can live with an automatic every day. The 8-speed is a really great transmission yes, but if you like to drive a manual (I do), the automatic is just no fun. It's like comparing apples to oranges. I love my 535xi, but am starting to miss my 335i, mostly because it was a 6-speed. I'd happily give up a few mpg and even half of a second to 60mph for more driving fun.

I know how you feel, all you manual shifters. The since my E61 535d M Sport about 3 years ago, and because my wife will only drive an auto, I haven't been able to shift my own gears and I really miss it. I borrow my friend's car occasionally just to see if I still remember how to use both feet and two hands. Nothing like letting the needle go well into the red before going up!

And it's not just the auto box but with traction, ABS, insulations, injection... That's probably why some people like to drive classic cars, I guess.

I'm pretty sure you can override that when ordering. Call your CA. It's probably just a glitch in the online system that doesn't let you configure MT with Sport or M Sport. It'd be ridiculous if you couldn't choose MT with Sport.

That was my thought as well. Check the order sheet over the website build your own.

Does anyone know if the 535i M sport comes in manual transmission in Canada?
