ACS vs. Dinan springs
Does anyone have any feedback on either of these springs. I'm trying to decided between the two and I was told the Dinan only has a 1/2 inch drop. I'm more concerned with the ride quality and how well it works with the electronically controlled suspension. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I put Dinan springs on mine last weekend. I chose Dinan cuz i live on a dirt road and i thought ACS would be too much drop.
I have adaptive damping and ARS - no issues. In fact, the handling all-around is so much better. I can live with it in normal mode now ( I came out of an S5, and hated the stock 550 ride - I had to always bump up to "sport", then it was ok ). As fror drop, it may not have fully settled, but it appears to have a bit more droop in the rear. Overall very happy, but will be monitoring how it settles. I have no comparison to ACS. |

I appreciate the feedback... Do you mind if i ask how much they charged to install it? The local shop wanted about 7 labor hours and a re-alignment for a cost of about $700 plus parts.

I did it w a buddy. Took us about 6 hours, but the first side (drivers) took 4.5, and the other took 1.5, once we figured out how to do it. If it's a competent shop, I would think 5 hrs max plus alignment. That's for an x-drive, which is definitely more difficult.

ACS also drops more in the rear.

Just did the Dinan springs installed by local BMW dealer, I was deciding between ACS & Dinan. Prefer the ACS drop which I think it's about one inch all around for RWD 550i, but since the local BMW dealer gave me a great deal on Dinan parts and labor I decided to go with Dinan and have a peace of mind that the install is done by BMW dealer.
My initial feel is that the Dinan springs drop was too minimal (only around 1/2 inch) and in the Comfort & Sport mode I cannot really tell much of difference vs. the stock, i.e. still very comfortable ride with some body roll on corner. I have not tried in Sport+ mode and driven the car too aggressively yet. Anyone else out there with Dinan and can share their thoughts, thanks. |

I have ACS on my 550i and I think they're a little low, but it handles wonderfully. I was going to go with Dinan next time, but not after reading your post. Sport+ mode doesn't stiffen the suspension any more, only changes transmission upshifts.

I'm officially waiting 6 months until this all hopefully clears up as I can almost guarantee the install will be way overpriced in Sacramento, CA and I will get a fracking rattle to boot.
