Not needed but it's something to talk about that adds a little more class.

I just wish there was a way to close the trunk with the remote instead of pressing the button on the trunk.
I think its already there right? cant we close the trunk from remote if we have convinience package?

^I might just be slightly slow haha, but I've tried it a dozen times and can't figure it out. I recently got the car so I don't have all the gadgets down as of yet. I'll keep trying though.

Wow, who do you guys hang out with cavemen?

I dont think I recall anyone slamming a door shut yet. I love the soft close, there is something nice about that motor pulling the door in tight for all doors all the time. Also like it because my kids find it easier to get in and out, on other cars, sometimes they have to shut the door a couple of times. Overall I would get this option again without thinking twice.

That's right. As soon as you get used to use a light hand on them its one of the best features for me.

Purists aside, if you don't have it, it's easier to be critical or say you don't need it. If you have soft close doors, it takes 5 minutes to learn, 10 minutes to appreciate, and you will most likely want it in your next car.

I agree the soft close doors are awesome and would love it in all my cars ,I have a LS460 that has it and my f10 has it ,and a 02 Denali that doesn't have soft close doors ,it's funny every time my wife gets in the Denali she has to reopen and slam the door because she's used to the other cars, and I reply remember this is a old car you have to slam it like a caveman,Love the Denali though!
Any new car I buy and the option is available I get it for sure hands down!

Drove my M3 today. (Two more weeks left on the lease before it goes back to BMW.) After using the soft-close doors in the F10, I had to re-open and close the doors every time I got into the E90. I love having them!

Didn't get them. Same with the powered trunk. I'm completely Ok with closing my doors and trunk myself and didn't see the reason to spend money on something I don't need, especially given my other options priorities. If you have money to burn - sure treat yourselves.

What IS puzzling is that they could not make the trunk close with the remote. It can't be because of "safety" or "fear of little kids getting hurt". Mini-vans have been doing this for years....and further, the back windows go all the way down (rather than 3/4 down to protect kids). So what gives!!! Very puzzling!!!

Unintended consequences:
1. Other people getting into your 5 and slamming the door will horrify you.
2. I keep forgetting to slam the door on other cars, and leave them half open. Have to open and shut them again.

I HATE when people slam my doors..I have to tell them several times before they get used to it. I tell my brother his M5 is garbage because his doors dont close themselves

I don't particularly care for the doors, I like them, but wouldn't normally buy them. However in the US you have to buy them to get the power trunk lid, so I bought the package.

I love the soft close doors on my car. It is a great feature, would like to have it in my next car too.

Three of the five 550s I test drove had them and I didn't like them so I passed - but then I like a dipstick to check the oil and a manual with a clutch so what do I know

I have them and love them. I don't see there being any cons with this option. It's called piece of mind that the doors always close when shut the first time.

Most people that get in your car and are unfamiliar with the F10 don't know how hard to pull or push the door so it's convenient that the doors close on the first shot.

Soft Close Doors

My children love the soft close doors. It doesn't completely negate pinched fingers, but since they don't have to slam the doors, it gives them time to be sure everything is out of the way. I'll definitely get it on my next car if available.

My 535 has them and I love them. There wasn't a day that went by that I didn't have to ask someone to re-shut their door. All in the past now.

And if the sound of the door truly is irritating or distracting to you, well maybe you need to go to a few more rock-'n-roll concerts to re-calibrate your hearing and stress level.

Love the soft close doors on my 2008 750i

I'm not sure if the soft close doors on the F10 5-series work the same as the ones on my wife's 2008 750i, but no one has mentioned one of the absolute best features of having soft close doors... namely, that the doors can be opened to any degree desired, and they hold that position, even when opening on a hill with the car leaned to the right side. There are no pre-set "detents" as in non-soft close doors. I'm curious if the F10 does this as well... can someone who has them comment ? Thanks.

P.S. - I'm disappointed that you no longer can even order soft close doors on a 2012 535i, even with the Premium Package. They're now exclusive to the 550i. I absolutely would get these on my 2012 535i if they were available. Bummer.

No the F10 doesn't work like that, it's specific to 7 series.

Are the Soft Close an option on the '12 535xi? I didn't see them when I ordered.

Shame they would offer for '11 and then not for the next year model.
