Ignition Fault
Hi Guys........
New here , Have had a 2011 N47 F10 520D for a long time now and have gone through a couple of starter motors and other issues over the years.... Usually its the dont turn engine off message , You replace it and your back up & running but im stumped this time...... A few days ago I pressed the start stop button and it sounded like the starter had not disengaged like a whining sound on idle so pressed the start stop button again thinking this would stop the engine but it didnt just stopped the whining noise ...... Thought ok the starter has dis engaged im good to go , Drove to work turned the car off , No warning messages before I shut her down .... On leaving work tried to start the car but nothing , Ignition would not even come on , Message "Engine start fault , Press start" ........... Found fuse 38 a 40 amp blown under glove box , Replaced fuse then ignition would come on but on pressing start button too start engine fuse blows and error message " Do not turn off engine" so I figured starter motor is problem but still a little unsure as to why fuse would blow. Remove starter motor and its dead .....The local garage guy that does all the work over the years on the car hooks up the lap top and theres no no faults listed relating to the ignition just some minor ones ...... Fit a new starter motor thinking im gonna be ok now but no joy ,On pressing start button fuse 38 blows instantly......Could it be the actual start stop button that is also gone or shorting and causing the fuse to blow ? Removed the starter motor and its still good on a bench test ....... Baffled |
