Fraud or Fraudulent?
Interesting quick evaluation of the BMW M5 series. BMW boasts that the 2013 M5 offers a 560 HP engine. However, independant analysis say that in reality it exceeds 600 HP. And, BMW isn't denying it.

Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with it. Just as long as it's underrated and not overrated.
But I think all this has been known for quite some time now. |

BMW engineers have explained that the HP they quote is for a "worst case" scenario. I.e. high temperatures, high(ish) altitude, poor fuel etc. It's kind of like a safety margin in place for poor(er) conditions. It seems like BMW feels that if they advertise 560hp, then the engine shall produce that even at high altitudes, high temperatures/humidity etc.
They don't want to be in a situation where their cars (esp. the ///M models) give lower than advertised numbers if conditions aren't perfect. |
