bake, you mentioned you got the same tips Super6 got for half the price. Where did you get those from and any update on that installation job? I'm thinking about doing this but the $700+ price tag gives me a pause.

I will admit I was raped on labor, considering I have limited choices. But realistically if I wasn't so impatient I can see it being done for $550. Trust me, you will love the look.

I got mine from Ebay, here is the link. Funny thing is now they are listed for $599. When I purchased the asking price was $249 and you were able to submit a bid with your best offer. I made a few offers that were rejected, and then my offer of $215 was accepted. I actually have not installed them yet. Work has been insanely busy and I have not had a moment to myslef in weeks. I expected to be able to install this week, but that isn't going to happen. I will be sure to post pics once I get them on.

lmao @ winefan. I think he clicked on the wrong thread by mistake.

Anyway, so much for saving money on the tips from ebay. That's even more expensive that Super6's guy. Crazy. Anyway, Super6 what do you think is a reasonable labor cost for this if I need to get my diffuser cut and the tips welded?

I took very detailed pictures, and watched most of the process. Its very basic, had it been a Honda civic, it would have been a $90 job. Tack welding is not expensive at all, cutting the bumper just required even measures, and using tape you see on the first pictures as a guide, and using a fine tooth blade on a jigsaw ( It will cut through that bumper like a hot knife through butter and won't affect the paint at all) The key is making sure is a fine blade so it cuts and not rips. Even though mine took 4hrs because they dragged it out, the process should not take longer than an hr. 30min each side. The key is lining everything up. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't pay over $150 for the job.....we are basically paying for the letters "BMW"

Huh? I still spent less than that Super6 guy you mention. $90 for the tip plus $140 first visit to the shop and $140 second visit to the shop = $370

Unless I read it wrong didn't Super6 spend $500 in install alone plus $500 for the tip? So yes ebay still save me.. Now you tell who's crazy?

Tips Roughly $400 including shipping, labor for cutting the bumper and welding tips $345. $745 total. I am not sure where everyone is getting this $1000 install from........

Black5, spent alot less than me, and thats cool. That is why we have these forums to help each other out. I am comfortable with what I spent, and with no headache or return trips. Would I do it again......probably....was it worth the cost....no. $645 and I would have no complaints at all. :-)

I agree with you completely. It's not about what he paid vs you paid. It's about what worked for you and what worked for him. But yeah $645 is not a big deal depending on how much the tips meant to you. For someone who is on the fence on getting them, it may seem a little high but if you absolutely love the idea of quad tips, it may be a bargain!

Talked to a local mechanic and he said $200 max for labor if I were to bring him the tips. So now I just have to find reasonably priced tips.

BTW, anyone know a place where I can get a cheap M5 diffuser? I may just cut the one I have but I want to see what the damage is. I may even be open to an aftermarket diffuser if the quality is ok.

Guys sorry for hijacking this thread but what are the downsides with getting these tips in carbon fiber? I found them listed on ebay but I'm not sure how much harder these are to put on since you can't weld them. I know they are bolt ons but I would feel a lot better if they were a little more secured.

Those still look to be metal with the carbon fiber bolted on.

I think Akrapovic exhausts use the same type of tip.... Carbon fiber slipped over stainless steel. Dry Carbon does look great!

Anyone else know where I can more find tips like this? (One tip branches out to the side) Preferably 3.5" duals.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you have a stock muffler, you need that type of type to fit a M5 diffuser?

Anyone know if switching to quad tips would void the warranty from the dealer?

That is correct. There is someone on here selling stock 535 mufflers with this tip setup and it was installed with an M5 diffuser. The tips like I posted the link to, where the dual outlets are centered on the inlet, will work with diffusers made for a 550, stock or aftermarket.

No they don't. The tips do not alter the exhaust in anyway. It is really more of a cosmetic upgrade.
